Great video! At 54 years of age and a completely worn out back, blind in one eye, and 11 years before I'm old enough for retirement, and that's if they don't change the age to 70! I may be looking for some sort of tractor job up in a cooler and dryer climate!
I may have to work for next to nothing, but I like the country, and just looking to get by for a few years while I'm waiting to retire.

Farm Aid "This is a national security issue," warned U.S. Attorney General Eric
Holder during the first in the series public workshops on antitrust
issues in agriculture convened by the U.S. Department of Justice and the
U.S. Department of Agriculture last Friday in Ankeny, Iowa.

Farm Aid Please take a look at our "Farmer Hero" profile of Theresa Podoll. She and her husband Dan are second-generation owners and operators of Prairie Road Organic Farm in Fullerton, North Dakota where they produce organic garden seeds. Theresa also works in the non-profit world to end the extreme control held by just a few ...companies in the seed industry.

Theresa Podoll was raised on a conventional seed potato farm in North Dakota's Red River Valley. She had dreams of becoming a science teacher, but after her Ecology of Land-Use professor showed slides of his organic farm in Minnesota, she was hooked on the idea of farming. ...

Over the past couple decades, we have seen private "clubs" step in where school funding has been lost, especially in some of the team sports considered marginal by the HS football crowd that is desperate to keep that sport in the tax-supported loop. Here in Kansas, it is usually the last extra-curricular activity to get cut, long after arts and ... See Moremusic and "lesser" sports have been abandoned in the cost squeeze..
Why not a garden club? While many of us agree it would be great to add gardening to the regular curriculum, it may take some private parental involvement to get it started.
And the more children we introduce to healthy gardening, the better the future looks for our world as a whole.

Farm Aid Our new "Ask Farm Aid" column is up. This month we tackle the question of "how can a food system that offers so much variety be constricting consumer choice?"

www.farmaid.org
I read your column on concentration in agriculture last month, but I'm confused. You talk about monopolies and fewer consumer choices, but when I walk into a supermarket, I see a gazillion brands and products. I don't understand how concentration is actually hurting consumers.

Just like the farmers in Iraq used to do, David, for millennium. Then Wolfowitz ordered them to destroy those ancient seed stocks and buy genetically modified Monsanto seed. No one could make this stuff up.

Co sign, John R Miller AND John Patterson. Read the labels, Scott. Much of that produce is either corporates or IMPORTED. Oh yeah, we just love it when the salad we're eating has been grown in sewage & chemical run off from a maquilladora. Ever taste the difference between a real tomato & a GM one? Or a bell pepper? They have no taste. They're just green. Or red. My own pet peeve is corn masa that smells like incense. W-T-F?

With the economy struggling, wouldn't it be great if some of the unemployed with ag roots (or just ag aspirations) could transition to a new old fashioned lifestyle? Providing them with incentives to start small farms and grow produce and livestock for local markets seems like a viable answer to a difficult problem, especially in states where ... See Moreagriculture is still a primary concern. Come to think of it, there's hardly a state where it isn't still a viable option to returning to the rat race, if only the powers that be would make it easier, not harder.
