Hi, Nancy. Welcome! One of the first things we recommend for all of our new members is to sign up for a GEHA web account, where you can access claims and eligibility information. But ... your membership needs to be active before you can sign up. So I'll post a reminder in the New Year. Until then, enjoy the holidays and have a happy New Year!

I can't find any Retro Fitness Centers in the GlobalFit search (http://www.globalfit.com/geha), so it looks like the answer is "no" for now.

Denise Hi. I am a GEHA member and a new 24 hour fitness just opened in my area. What is the discount that we get there for being a GEHA member? Thanks.

Hi, Denise. It depends on where you live. Go to this webpage (http://www.globalfit.com/geha) and enter your zip code. The new gym should show up on the search results. Click on its name to see the rate (you'll have to register if it's your first time on the GlobalFit site). And if you decide to get a membership, it looks like GlobalFit will take $24 off till the end of December if you use Campaign Code SAVE1209.

The holiday season promises great fun and great food. But this issue of issue of Health e-Report covers the flip side of both: the holiday blues (especially among older people) and the risks of foodborne illness. We also offer encouragement for anyone who is planning to stop smoking in 2010. Also in...

Pamela Whitley Hoffman My husband is a new Federal employee since 10/26/09. Does he have to fill out a form to join the GHEAssociation prior to choosing it for our 2010 health plan?

Hi, Pamela. Congrats to your husband on his new job. No, he does not need to join the association (though that used to be the case many years ago). He can enroll using the regular channels through his employer. Does that answer your question?

Yes. The info I read on the website www.opm.gov states that you have to become a member first. Guess they need to update that a bit.

Hmm. Our brochure says "You must be, or must become a member of Government Employees Health Association, Inc." But you don't have to do that first. The brochure goes on to say "To become a member: You join simply by signing a completed Standard Form 2809, Health Benefits Registration Form, evidencing your enrollment in the Plan."

If you can paste a link the webpage that says you have to become a member first, that would be great. I've looked at the OM site and can' find it. Thanks!

All of our health plan members can access discounts on memberships at participating gyms through GlobalFit. I did not find any Life Time Fitness clubs on the list of participating gyms, which include 24-Hour Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Curves, Bally's Gold's Gym and Jazzercise. You can search for a gym by zip code: http://www.globalfit.com/geha

As for your question about the deductible, I'm going to paste in the explanation below from our plan brochure, which you can download here: http://www.geha.com/pdfs/2010StdHighBrochure.pdf

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to give us a call at (800) 821-6136!... See More

A deductible is a fixed amount of covered expenses you must incur for certain covered services and supplies before we start paying benefits for them. Copayments and coinsurance amounts do not count toward any deductible. When a covered service or supply is subject to a deductible, only the Plan allowance for the service or supply counts toward the deductible.

• The calendar year deductible is $350 per person under High and Standard Option. After the deductible amount is satisfied for an individual, covered services are payable for that individual. Under a family enrollment, all family members’ individual deductibles are considered to be satisfied when the family members’ deductibles are combined and reach $700 under High and Standard Option.

I don't knw your situation, but it is a lot cheaper in premium. There is also some difference in prescriptions and the way they are paid. Otherwise pretty much the same. They have a nice web site with a lot of info.
