Haiti

Having just returned from a trip to Haiti, I can give a firsthand account of how desperate the conditions in many of the Caribbean countries are. However, despite the deplorable conditions in which many of these people live, they still exhibit an amazing amount of happiness, confidence and pride. Surrounded by barren land, they live in hovels that are basically rusted metal shacks, indescribably hot, with minimal ventilation, no water, electricity or sanitation -- yet, they have not lost hope! A vitality and joy in their spirit still exists, which you would be hard pressed to find in people who have so much more here in the United States. So, next time you are worrying about something in your life, remember how good we have it and don't sweat the small stuff.
