Food Geekery It's official... Food Geekery is packing up and heading down to Florida before the year is out. This will be a whole new culinary adventure and I hope everyone joins us on it!

I’m more than a few of you have noticed a slight slowdown in the number of updates going on the site. This actually isn’t because I have little to say, rather, it has to do with the fact that I’m moving.

Don't know much about Panama City but we were going to Cape San Blas every year for a while. I always bought my food before I went down b/c they didn't have anything but a Piggly Wiggly and the pickins were slim. That would be very tough for me living in Atlanta. There are a lot of things I hate about the big city but I love having a Whole Foods and tons of food options.

Food Geekery A great article showing how a lot of the chefs out there have started slimming down.

Alton Brown: "Celebrity chefs are the high priests of the food craze that is partly responsible for the fattening of America. We helped people get into this mess. I don't see why we shouldn't help get them out."

Food Geekery This is a very adorable article that you all should take a look at... you might learn something. :)

I was keeping it "tight." A term professional chefs toss around pretty loosely to define things being done correctly. It was 6:45 in the morning. There was farm-fresh asparagus boiling away in a properly salted pot of water. An egg, from another local farm, was gently cooking in a glass jar. This wa...

Love it! Especially having a 9-month old. I served purple sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving and Sydney loved them. The adults...not so much. We have preconceived notions about what is acceptable in the way our food looks and is prepared. Babies have none of that and I'm trying not to influence what Sydney likes or doesn't like based on my own experiences.

Food Geekery Thought you all might find this funny... I did!

Laurel Augustine Here's a tough one. I soaked 2 cups of dry yellow split peas and figured I'd just figure something out later. Well, in just a few hours they've turned into 6 cups and they still have a few hours to go.

My delimma is that I'm just not in the mood for split peas anymore. Any suggestions?

Well, while it's not the same, you can do a take on this (since the peas are already soaked, you'll have to adjust the recipe some):

Perhaps you can pack the peas together with the breadcrumbs and other spices and make a "meatloaf" of sorts. I did that with chopped mushrooms the other week and it was absolutely delish!

Tonight when I got home I was so HUNGRY and happy to have my little blond peas waiting for me. I'm a big fan of spicey sautees and one pot meals so here's what I did (but only used a cup- 4 left)

I sauteed a couple cups of green cabbage with onion, garlic, and some bocca (I don't eat much meat). Added a little fennel, dried basil, black pepper ... See Moreand cayanne. Then I added a cup of the split peas (which were boiled in chix base). At the end I added a little soy sauce for salt and about an ounce of tomato juice for moisture.

It had sort of a stuffed cabbage feel and was really filling. After being in the rain all day it was just right. I will definately try to burger them tomorrow. Thanks!

Yes, you read the title right, these cookies are both gluten-free as well as vegan. I always feel bad for people with gluten allergies. They miss out on some of the best food, one of them being cookies. The “cookies” they get usually are like stones. This recipe was made to try and please everyone…...

Good to know that's you're allergic to avocado. Can't bring you an experimental food if it has that in it. Good to know!

This is a first for me on this site so far… a bad review. Not just a normal bad review, but a horrible one. This one actually has me preparing to go back there and speak to their management and could perhaps involve law enforcement. We’ll just say I won’t be back.

Food Geekery After a trying a new restaurant tonight and realizing it wasn't that good, I have coined a new phrase: "Full of Regret" I'm officially using now using this to describe becoming full after tasting many sub-par foodstuffs. Feel free to borrow.
