Hi Julie, the land that is being used to raise my beef is grass land that is privately owned. The rancher is using that land to make food. She could have sold it for high density housing or left it idle. I don't large quantities of meat.

I am at risk for insulin resistance and for me to eat my protein from rice, beans and corn, soy etc. I would have to risk a higher blood glucose level. Another common health issue that requires limiting grains with gluten include Chron's disease. It is the most common genetic disease in North America.

I'm just lucky not to have metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes. All of my diabetic friends and clients avoid refined grains but eating protein every 3 hours is required to stabilize blood glucose and insulin levels. They eat nuts, dairy and animal protein to stay healthy. They have no other choice. So, it's not regulating what I consume just for the heck of it, it is so I don't become diabetic and end up on dialysis or blind. ... Read More

One wonders why we are seeing an epidemic of these types of diseases and some think there is a link to the refined grain diet. Food is medicine and food is also poison. It just depends on who you are!

If you are buying your organic food from a huge MNC , how do you know they are being honest, and you really are getting organic food? Turns out that tap water is regulated more than bottled water, and people were paying way more money for bottled water, because they thought and assumed it was safer.

Carolyn - I like your last statement "I wish people would educate themselves!" and find that very statement at the core of all my frustration with factory farming, GMO's, etc. WHY do people put so much trust in the USDA, the FDA, Governors, etc. without doing further research? It's like people automatically take declarations and statements from ... Read Morethese people and companies as if it's 100% right, and there's no reason why it wouldn't be. To live a safe & happy life, it's up to US as individuals to educate ourselves, not let others educate us falsely.

Hey Enid
All of the vitamins and minerals that you are asking about are found in plants. After all thats where the animals get them in the first place. So why not just go straight to the source and cut out the middle man. Green leafy veggies (ie broccoli, spinach, kale, bok choy) are full of calcium and iron. Beans and nuts have loads of protein and vitamins. DHA again comes from plants such as algae and seaweed that fish consume. As for B12 our bodies need very little and store it for a long time. I do occasionally take a B12 supplement, but you can get it from bacteria (ie. the food that sits out on the counter for an hour before being consumed will contain some B12)
B12 is the only supplement that I take and only once in a while.
I do eat soy but in moderation. I know many of people avoid it, which is fine too.
We can get all of the nutrients we need from a well balanced plant based diet. And be healthier from it!... Read More
If going vegan didn't work for you the first time, maybe you dove in too fast and were ready. There are so many great vegan cook books out now and info online.
I encourage you to give it another shot! I have been veg for 15 years vegan for 4 and have NEVER felt better!

Wendy, to avoid soy you pretty much have to avoid all processed foods. Soy protein is added to a lot of processed foods and soy oil too. Think about canola oil in the same regard. Now... try to find a salad dressing that does not contain soy oil, canola oil or sugar. Let me know if you find one! Most of the time, I make my own dressings.

Thanks ... Read Morefor the vegan information. I am satisfied with my current eating habits which include shellfish, fish, pastured meats and dairy. I have a couple of friends who are grass farmers and raise cattle which I include in my diet. I'm convinced that their ranches are a blessing to people, the animals and the environment.
