Razkolnikov Alexandreitch Bolkonsky "Mindlessly marching" is in no way an absentminded or vapid behaviour as Brian seems to imply. In fact marching about, wearing shaved heads and uniforms helps identify these poor children with state authority at it's most visceral and barbarian. By doing so these behavioural imperatives profoundly assist FUMA's general programme to produce militarized almost organ-less agents of disaster, to exact a nation of hopeful future perpetrators in the name of the great double hegemony (American brand Capitalism/Christianity). Of course all of this is heavily sponsored by the conservative Right.

The Federalist Papers weren't designed for public consumption? ;-)

Aaron Snyder Saw an interview tonight with Eddie George about the Steve McNair tragedy...On the field, in the broadcast booth, in the community, no matter what he does, Eddie George does it with class and eloquence. I'm glad that our schools most public personality is such a class act.

Henry Franceschini Wow ! Brian, such an intelligent comment, you missed the whole point of "Structure," talk to someone who has gone through it. Henry Franceschini, 1974, Football, Lacrosse Batallion staff..would not trade my years for anything..

Brian Skelton Wow, after reading most of these posts, it is quite clear that FUMA should spend more time developing grammar and vocabulary and spelling than mindlessly marching around a field.
Michael at 5:12am July 5
Well, when FUMA's recent graduates have had a 100% acceptance rate to colleges and universities, over $8 million in scholarships for a single graduating class, and scored, on average, higher than the rest of the state and nation for standardized tests (such as the SAT and ACT), perhaps one should note that, this is a Facebook group.
Besides, "mindlessly" marching before and after classes, on weekends and for extra duty seems to pay off, literally!

Bravo! Not enough emphasis were needed anymore. Even at the best of schools.

Fork Union Military Academy at 7:47am July 4
lol....FUMA is the place that guys love a few years after they're done with the parades and floor waxing...but rarely confess to loving while they're here marching and buffing...lol.

Hanan Fahmi My son is only 7, but he is hyperactive, lacks focus and just wants to play. Some people told me that if I send him to FUMA, he will change and learn discipline.. is that true?
Fork Union Military Academy at 7:44am July 4
For many boys, the structure we have in place at FUMA really helps them concentrate on their academics, as well as their athletic and spiritual development. It's not a cure all for all boys, but for many (even those with ADD) the environment here can be a big help. I hope you will get some additional feedback here from some other parents and alumni...

Philip Hylton Fork Union Mililtary Academy, yup i finish my time there on a good note. just wanted to say thanks to all that helped me and to all that was their for me durning those long hard ass years................

Walter Bond I am thinking about sending my son to the summer program. He loves football and has the potential to become a great student. I need some honest feedback on the summer program. He will be a freshman this fall. Thanks!

John O'Neil How could FUMA ditch the fatigues? Fatigues and military school go hand-in-hand. Plus I'd hate to drill in low-quarter shoes!

Hope all of you get a chance to check out one of our most recent "success stories." And, as always, this success story was not created by FUMA, but, rather, by the student who gave his best effort and overcame obstacles on his way to achieving his own success.
Here's the story in a nutshell.....Kevin Laue was born with only one hand, but grew to be 6'10" tall and had parents who helped him overcome problems rather than merely avoid them. So, instead of deciding that two hands were a requirement for playing basketball and opting to stay on the sidelines, Kevin became an outstanding high school basketball player. After breaking his leg his senior year, Kevin needed an opportunity to impress the college coaches so he came to FUMA. After a year of hard work, Kevin became he first one-handed basketball player to be awarded a D1 scholarship to play basketball in college.
Here Kevin is on ESPN he other day...

Mike Marvaso Why does everyone love fuma so much? non of you must have really gone there because it was the worst 2 years of my life and i still wake up at 3am some nights in a cold sweat thinking im in the baracks. Im working on making enough money to buy it and turn it into a brothel anyone want to get on board holla at me. Oh yeah people love to talk to the kids that go there now, like have a great summer and congrats blah blah blah. here is my advice to any kid who has to go back in august. Jump off a bridge, drop a toaster in the bath tub, or just transfer for your own good, you have three months to convince mom and dad GET ON IT.

I enjoyed my 4 years of experiences at FUMA. There were times I'd rather have been anywhere else but that comes with the territory. All in all, it was well worth the experience and my parents' $$$. Too bad this guy had a bad time there. I wonder what class he was? The vast majority of kids that I remember at FUMA that were sent there as "... Read Moretrouble makers" weeded themselves out soon enough. BTW, I have just now, after 20 years, stopped having regular dreams about prepping my room for Saturday inspection with Col. Radcliffe two doors away.
Barry at 12:36am June 30
Ok. I just got done reading all these posts so I figured I would chime in to touch on a few things. My family was one of the "Military Families" mentioned in post as a "exception". But let me tell you something my friend, my family knew at the time what was ahead for me if I jumped from base to base with them. The day I visted FUMA my dad asked me... Read More if I wanted to stay, and I did. He also asked me that if I stayed to at least try to make the best of it, and I did. My family struggled so much to send me to FUMA but I made it through. I had one year in 10th grade we couldnt afford to send me to FUMA so I went to school in San Antonio until aid helped me back. Some kids like you bro have no idea how lucky you are. Parents just write a check and you complain or kick and scream through the whole thing. One of my proudest moments in my years as a nightclub owner in Texas was paying my parents back the loans and debts from FUMA. Because I now understand the true worth of it!

Fork Union Military Academy Wow, the campus is quiet. Our thoughts, love, and prayers go with our Class of 2009. Keep writing those success stories, guys.

Congrats! There are "photo zones" set up at the side of the stage, or you might be able to get access to the press box (I'm not sure if that will be available or not, but worth a shot).

Guillermo Ramirez
"There is a good reason they call these ceremonies
'commencement exercises'.
Graduation is not the end;
it's the beginning."
Orrin Hatch
I can only suggest one thing> THINK FUMA, ACT FUMA
Congratulations

Band Co. 1st LT.

Fork Union Military Academy Only a week to go until the Class of 2009 walks across the stage! Hope they can all hang tough until then...
William at 4:51am May 17
I remember walking around the football field in my class a and it was about a week before graduation and I was just about in tears thinking this was all almost over
Dan at 3:04pm May 21
I guarantee I will have a few tears clouding my eyes as I try to grab some photographs of our happy cadets. That moment when they sit back down, open up their diploma folder and just stare at that document always grabs me by the heart.
Class of 2009, we love you guys (as much as we've loved the classes that have gone before you!) and look forward to your day of celebration.

Bryan E. Shelton Col Akers and FUMA opened up my eyes to what I could make of myself and how bright my future could be. Took my first flight at FUMA w/Col Akers aviation program. Had some hard times and got kicked out a bunch but when I look back, I am grateful for the lessons....Class of 94
