What percentage of this money will go to consulting and admin fees? In the NJ's programs it's greater than 95%. Let's just hope it's not more of the same and the monies benefit the environment not the connected companies.

My concern is that most of the funding is for "shovel ready" existing technology and applications which are already obsolete or soon will be. We should instead be developing, testing, demonstrating and deploying new technologies, applications and methods.

Not that it's light reading, but it is fascinating and a little exciting to see progress being made to make the smart grid a reality. The NIST sets some early benchmarks for development of the smart grid. Expected by Jan. 2010 are draft specs for demand response signals and cyber security.
