There is an e-mail cirucating far and wide, warning that "900 dogs will euthanized" at Dairyland Greyhound Park because of the track's announced closure. This e-mail is a complete hoax. A similar e-mail went around in 2005 when Plainfield Greyhound Park closed its doors...

Thanks for clearing this up. Our group was in receipt of such an email and it is devastating to hear such things about these beautiful pups. I will pass this on to my group.

We have received confirmation that Dairyland will be holding its last race on December 31, bringing an end to dog racing in the state of Wisconsin! What a way to start the new year! Wisconsin was once home to five dog tracks, and the closure of Dairyland had long been predicted...

This is great news! I live in Florida, but I grew up in West Memphis, Arkansas! That track needs to be next!!!! I got an email today saying that if the Greyhounds aren't adopted in 6 weeks they will be put down. Is this true? Just 6 weeks is all we have to find homes for these babies?

Today, the San Antonio News-Express published a story on injuries to greyhounds at Texas dog tracks in 2008: Altogether, 342 dogs were injured at a rate of 27/month at one track and 3.5/month at the other. The most frequent injuries reported were broken legs and muscle tears...

I used to tell people that I would fully support dog racing (and horse racing, as well) if they treated the animals with respect. My poor Joey still shakes when we go out in public and it's been a decade since his two years at the track. However, Thanks to Christine, I have seen some race accident reports, just a tiny slice of the injuries suffered by our hounds every year, and I no longer suggest any support for this cruel industry.

Look, if Joey suffers a fatal fall while running for his own enjoyment, that will SUCK for me! However, it’s like me when I ski: I have done things that could have done myself serious harm, but I did them for MY OWN fun, not because someone was forcing me. Same goes for Greys: they can, and sometimes do, hurt themselves while running and playing, but they are PLAYING!, and no one is forcing it on them for profit and abusing them if they don’t “play fast enough.”

So, here’s to Greys and THEIR choosing when and where to run. And how fast to do it! As well, here’s to us for standing up for these noble creatures and winning the hearts and minds of caring people to end this cruelty.

Amen to that Judy! This is Debbie with Idaho CAGE and Greyhound Rescue of Idaho. Should've seen my last boy I got out of Witchita. What a mess he was. He's a really BIG boy. When he came off the hauler he weighed in at 72 lbs. Now he weighs 90 lbs and he's not fat! He was a walking skeleton. I've been doing this for 15yrs and he's one of the worse ones I've ever seen. If we don't stand up for these guys, who will?
