Gavin Newsom SF's plan to save thousands of city jobs and services by offering 37.5 hour part time positions to most city employees discussed in Chronicle.

sfgate.com
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has ordered - not just suggested - that 17,424 unionized workers be laid off and then rehired with a 6.25 percent wage cut. No deals, no sweet talk, just action. It's a dramatic and creative step, one that could save $110 million in salaries - the largest expense ite...

Gavin Newsom asking city employees for ideas on how to save money and improve the way San Francisco works.

A $522 million budget hole. What to do, what to do? In addition to his own proposals - notably, cutting the workweek to save $100 million - Mayor Gavin Newsom has turned to the city's 26,000 employees for ideas. And he'...

financial guidance to all San Franciscans. Only one out of five
American households are getting the guidance they need to reach their

and missteps.

When you trace the roots of the record-busting foreclosure rate and the havoc that has wrought on the American economy over the last few years, San Francisco's mailboxes probably don't come to mind as a logical starting point. But they should.

How about giving tax breaks to building owners who lower the rent for their liquor store/ 99 cent stores, so those owners can afford to carry fruits and vegetables?
Or, just give these owners, a low interest loan, a line of credit they can't get anywhere else, and some assistance on getting their mortgages modified so we don't have more buildings ... See Moreand stores, closing?

If we want the change, we can do it in ways so when the communities get better, the city makes better money, too. Certainly better than taking the catastrophic losses, otherwise.

As we have seen in the consumer marketplace, when companies like Google, Twitter, and Facebook release APIs (Application Programming Interface), countless innovative applications are created that build on the original idea. No one is happy about their pink slip. If we got one The Mayor needs to get one too...and the bad part is not of all us is coming back to work. Why wait 2 weeks to know?? They already know who's coming back or not anyways..they have been planing this for a long time. They just can't process 15,000 employees in two weeks time.

Diana took the words out of my mouth. We the people are so hurt that you aren't running! Now we have three soggy turd sandwiches to chose from. I plan to write-in a candidate. I'm just not sure yet if it should be me or Snoopy.....ha ha ha! Maybe you'll come rescue us after the next governor screws us over a little more?

Gavin Newsom In an effort to make it easier for other cities to learn about and implement creative solutions like SF's universal health care program, I am pleased to announce the launch of http://PolicySF.org, a one-stop destination for idea sharing and collaboration.

Cities don't need to wait for Washington to solve our problems. They can come up with creative solutions, like we've done in San Francisco when we launched the country's first universal health care program.

Universal Health Care is killing small business.. Paying $3 an hour or $480 a month per employee to SF so that your employee can go to SFGH is not a great "health care plan"

Gavin Newsom It's time for the GOP to stop misleading people and start telling the truth about the Federal Stimulus. In San Francisco thousands of people and their families (2,910 and counting to date) now have the dignity of work and a paycheck because of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act.

www.huffingtonpost.com
Repeating a lie over and over doesn't make it true. But if you listen to Republicans on the subject of job creation and the federal stimulus package, it's obvious they don't understand that or care.

Generalizing about folks who are critical and challenging the status quo is naive. Speaking from experience, the people who are the most critical ARE the ones that typically work the hardest for change because we have the passion that sparks and motivates continued action. What I originally respected in Gavin was his ability to challenge tolerated norms, and defy political complacency - what some on here might consider "bitching."
