Gifted Homeschoolers Forum Dropout costs for 50 major US cities #gifted #homeschool

www.edweek.org
If half the students who dropped out of the class of 2008 had graduated, they would have generated $4.1 billion more in wages and $536 million in state and local taxes nationally in one average year of their working lives, according to a new analysis.

Some of those dropout figures are homeschoolers, unschoolers and early college entrance who show up as dropouts on these figures. But even with those removed that still leaves a large number of dropouts. I wish high school would have at least one course in personal finance and one in career/job training. All students should write a paper on how they plan on supporting themselves after they graduate. Might be food for thought!

I'm not entirely clear on their methodology and how they defined dropouts, etc. Regardless, other research indicates that gifted (and 2e) kids are represented in far greater proportion in that population than would be predicted. It's something like 20 times great, which is significant.
