My daughter was diagnosed at 16 months old and she is now 4. She is such a tropper and is learning to do her finger pricks by herself.

My son was diagnosed on his first birthday. We ran out of fingers and toes! He started using his insulin pen around 5 years old with me holding the pen so he could press the button. He's 12 now and loves Glucose Buddy and his ITouch.

Let's forget about the fat and calorie content of these snacks for a second. I'm willing to bet that 8/10 diabetics don't realize that sugar free treats DO AFFECT YOUR BLOOD SUGAR and I bet 99/100 of your family members don't realize it...

A rule of thumb I use is don't count sugar, count carbs. It helps so much!

Some forget the stuff in the sugar free stuff...if you eat a lot of it can give you bubble guts. Anything you put in your mouth brings your sugar up Its just depends how fast its broken down.

SHOULD THESE CHILDREN BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEIR PARENTS? IS THIS ABUSE? THIS IS NOT OK. THIS IS ABSURD.

These kids AND the parents need some serious counseling to get to the root of the problem. Whether it's bad parenting, the inability to say no... whatever... it needs to be addressed. Personally, l think taking the kids away from the parents may only promote their bad habits. They probably eat as a coping mechanism.

From TuDiabetes: I have a good friend that has an older brother that did several years in a Texas prison during the early 90's (He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a very young age.). We have all read the advantages of breast-feeding. My question, however, is that a lot of these advertisements show no compassion for mothers who physically can't breastfeed.Do you think advertisements like the one above is too aggressive? If you were unable to breast-feed or you chose not to, ho...

No one is advertising that babies who are breastfed are 100's of times more likely to develop diabetes due to vitamin d deficiencies in the Moms. It's a stupid, political scare tactic.

I BF all my kids in the beginning, and 3 of the 4 were on formula within their first year. One couldn't nurse well b/c of a medical problem, one lost interest, and one had to be weaned due to a family emergency. My almost 3 yr old, who was nursed almost exclusively, would still nurse if I were willing. You cannot tell by their health, IQ, or level... See More of attatchment which were nursed exclusively and which were not. I was made to feel like a failure b/c I didn't make it to a year with some ot my babies. When I did make it a year, I felt accomplished, but not "better". Frankly, if people are so concerned about the method of feeding instead of the level of love and care the baby receives, they miss the whole point of parenting. The babies aren't going to remember how they were fed, just how they were loved.

Was able to post this morning with no difficulty in the "When were you..." thread.

Again, great addition with this Forum/discussion board Matt.

I've found T1 discussion boards are worth their weight in gold as regards getting management advice from people that actually have diabetes, or in having had it for many years have perspective and experience on whole host of topics.... See More

Cheers
