My little sister died three years ago on November 11. She was walking down the hall to tell her girls they were going to McDonalds for lunch. She never made it to the end of the hall. She died from a heart condition no one knew she had. I am asking all to wear red in her memory on November 11 to remind us of the need t...o take care of ourselves and each other. Jana was a strong person who had no health problems. She left two little girls, aged 8 and 4 at the time. Please take time to tell your doctor if something doesn't seem right. I will never know if she had symptoms she ignored, but it did force me to take better care of myself. I have lost 45 pounds and more active than ever.

Nine years ago, on Halloween night, I had a pacemaker implanted. I had gone to the dr for a sinus problem, and had a pulse rate of 44. What a surprise that was since I am a very active, always on the go person. The biggest lesson I have learned is to "listen to my body". In late 2007, I was feeling tired all the ti...me, had so little energy, and it wasn't getting better. Stent surgery followed. I try to eat healthy and need to get back on my exercise program!Read More

Shannon Lampman Hudgins I'm doing a mini research paper for my English class on heart disease and women. It's sad to see that this disease is the #1 killer of us but there is little that is being done about it. While taking to other females in my class it is clear that the message has to come out. Take action now while you are young.

Hi Everyone...on Sept 6th I lost my Mom, I was under a great deal of stress just trying to keep it together, making sure my son was ok, (his GramGram was his best buddy, they did alot together because he wanted to take care of her. He is a really good kid of sixteen) I had a feeling something was wrong and went to my D...octor...he sent me for a stress test, that I failed but was told it wasn't my heart and sent back to my Doctor. An xray was taken and I was told I had neumonia. Given antibiotics and sent home. To make a long story short, later that night after a ride from the EMT's and a trip to the Cath lab, I found out I had 2 blocked valve at 100%, one blocked at 90% and a valve that needed to be repaired. Not given any chance to make it off the table, the skill of a great Surgeon and his team. Their "we are not giving up adittude" I am still here, for my Son and my family. I have one thing to say to anyone with heart problems in their family, Push for all test early, don't let anyone talk you out of a test just because you are "to young". I am 53, in August of this year I walked the length of Manhattan with a bad heart. I could have died, and and my Son would have had to deal with loosing both his Mom and GramGram in less than a month. Early detection, watch your diet and exercise may sound old but it works....Read More

Charlotte E. Fordham I lost my beloved mother ten years ago due to congestive heart failure. She knew she had heart disease, but nobody had any idea she was in eminent danger. She died at 61 years of age while taking a mid afternoon nap. We will never recover from this loss. I pray for a cure, although it will come too late for me....Please take care of yourself and make sure you talk with your doctor if you suffer from this disease...
