The DMMC's free music business education series, Music University will hold a panel on Using Social Media for Music Marketing on Tuesday, November 17th at 7pm at Mars Cafe.

The panel will explore how artists, bands, labels and promoters can leverage social media in the new digital music industry. Panelists will share th...eir perspectives on how to use social media effectively for marketing / promotions and connecting and engaging with fans online. The discussion will cover such topics as must-have social media tools for bands, crowdsourcing and interacting with your online fanbase, tips for promoting and general best practices.

Panelists:
Sam Summers - Founder and owner of First Fleet Concerts, has 6 years of experience booking shows at area venues, as well as regionally and nationally. When he's not booking concerts, he enjoys traveling and lately has taken up a new hobby of exploring gravel roads in rural Iowa. According to Sam, his biggest accomplishment to date is being featured in SMASH Magazine.

Bradford Johnson - Lead vocals, guitar for The Magazines and a graphic designer, he has been a part of the Des Moines music scene for the last 10 years (other bands: Cardboard Canary, Rosefield Rivals and Stallions Vs Unicorns). Bradford's current band The Magazines is hoping to encourage a bigger and better Des Moines scene, which will encourage and allow everyone to participate and work together (even beyond music) for a better community.

Moderator:
Hillary Brown is a Social Media Strategist at Lava Row and a volunteer on the DMMC Marketing & PR Committee. Her past experience includes music and entertainment marketing at LA-based youth marketing agency ADD Marketing, where she worked with record labels and film companies to execute various street, guerrilla, event and online marketing campaigns.

Music University is a free music business education series designed to provide artists and industry professionals advice on making a living through music in Central Iowa. Local and regional experts lead panel discussions covering a wide variety of topics of interest to anyone trying to move ahead in the music industry.

The venue ordinance was passed about 2 years ago and it sunset about a year ago. I believe the situation at People's is a little different in the fact that you can't bring alcohol into the main room.
