A few weeks ago, Anne Osmer left her home in Hendersonville, N.C., went to a local airfield, climbed into the cockpit of a Diamond DA20 and took off on her first-ever solo flight. Nothing unusual in that, except Osmer is 83 years old.

Greg Brown Whoa! Look what showed up on the golf course last night, 200 feet behind our friends Tom & Laurel's home in Truckee, California! Fortunately the two occupants walked away.

Greg Brown For those who've had difficulty accessing my recent columns, please forgive me. After AOPA dropped "AOPA Flight Training" password protection several months ago, they apparently decided to reinstate it for recent issues. (Until someone complained I was unaware of this.) Fortunately my editors have offered permission to... directly post my recent columns, so that issue should be resolved for good. I have updated the recent column links accessible through my Facebook photo albums. Thanks for understanding! Greg Brown Is this not cool?! "Saudi Arabian woman achieves dream of pilot's license: Nawal Alhawsawi was not allowed to drive in her home country of Saudi Arabia, but she has earned her pilot's license since emigrating to the U.S."

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Nawal Alhawsawi earned her wings more than 200 flights ago. Still, when she pulls back on the stick in her small single-engine plane, sending it climbing into the sky above downtown Cleveland, her skin tingles at a million nerve endings.

Greg Brown It's outside aviation, I know, but for those following my son Hannis's musical adventures you can hear excerpts from his new solo album, "Oh Ah Ee," here. (Those who previously joined his fan page, please do so again. He had to reload it to correct an error.)
Hannis Brown's debut album, "Oh Ah Ee," is set to be released in the Winter of 2010. Mixing controlled instrumental chaos with sedate vocal harmonies, clattering found sounds, and explosions of free jazz, the music has been compared to Battles, Talking Heads, Grizzly Be...ar, and the late Arthur Russell. Preview 4 songs that will appear on "Oh Ah Ee" at www.myspace.com/hannisbrown. For more info on Hannis Brown's music, visit www.hannisbrown.com.
