Friday night, December 11 the Darling Pavilion at Hope International University was beautifully decorated and filled with happy graduates and their special guests. More than 265 people had braved the weather to gather and honor the Fall 2009 graduates of HIU’s Pacific Christian College and the School of Graduate and P...rofessional Studies at a special Commencement Banquet. The celebratory evening was filled with live music, inspirational speeches, great food and special recognition for outstanding graduates.
PCC distinguished graduates Candace Bridges, Jessica Aho, Bryce Wilson, Lynda Berg and Kimberly George each received Latin Honors, represented by the silver (cum laude), blue (magna cum laude) and white (summa cum laude) honor cords.
SGPS distinguished graduate Willa Williams received the burgundy & gold cord representing Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honors.
26 SGPS Masters graduates also participated in a special Hooding Ceremony in which each received their Master’s hood trimmed in the colors of their academic department.
As soon as the program concluded, Operations staff quickly tore down the tables and turned the room around to prepare for the more than 800 guests and graduates who would be attending the Commencement Ceremony the following morning.

Dr. Gene Sonnenberg was the featured speaker at the Chapel service on November 12, 2009.
Dr. Sonnenberg, a Biblical Studies Faculty member, will be retiring at the end of the fall semester.
A reception was held in his honor in Nutwood West Suite 113 immediately following Chapel.
Hope International University HIU’s new student lounge is open! Check it out – located on the first floor of Nutwood. It’s got study areas, wi-fi, plug ins for laptops, a 200 inch HD TV, Blu Ray and surround sound, and will soon have a coffee shop/café.

Hope International University On Friday, October 16, over 500 alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students filled the beautiful Disney Grand Californian Hotel & Spa in Anaheim, CA, to support the university at its annual Celebrate Hope Dinner. Dr. Buzz Aldrin, legendary astronaut, explorer, scientist, and American hero give the keynote address, an ...intriguing speech on his own experiences of overcoming challenges and his great successes in space travel. More than $130,000 was raised for student scholarships.
