You will not loose anything... But what You will need to do is go reinstall your operating system and do not put the data drives in until you have your system set up then put your drives in and turn on view hidden files...once you view the hidden files you will be able to browse the Hard drives and you will see the files on the drives.... Move all ... See Morethe files to one or two drives and do not add that drive to the array... Install an empty drive to the array, let it format then move your data to it.... keep doing that until all of your data is moved...If you have any questions email me.. I have done this a couple of times...it is very time consuming, depending on how much you have on the server...

Tan Khai Seng I just got a new Nokia E72 cell phone and guess what, i can access the shared media on the server, just like the media extender and PS3 does. Kudos to WHS.

Users that have installed any pre-release versions of Windows Home Server Power Packs will need to take actions to prepare for Power Pack 3. The prerequisite for successful download and installation of Power Pack 3 is to be running the correct version of Windows Home Server with Power Pack 2....

John Muravez Is there a way to make a extender like xbox360 or any others that use a child rating system? I love to put a extender in my girls room but I only want her to have access to my ripped [that I own:)] kids movies and not my other junk. Or is there a way I can make a extender to only see one folder in my videos? No need for my girl to watch goodfellas lol.

Benjamin Fuller

Benjamin Fuller I'm thinking installing the OS on a laptop/notebook. I'm just not sure what the drivers are going to be like. The reason is to conserve power. I'll be running a 1Tb USB 2.0 external HD. I would also like to to have a Home Theater PC on this setup with mutiple TV-tuner cards to stream over my network. Maybe a few USB w...eb cams for security. Any suggestions would be helpfull.

You're going to want at least 2 hard drives to take advantage of the file protection system. Also, windows home server really likes the largest, fastest hard drive to be the system drive. I'd recommend against setting up a laptop as a home server.

Jason Cartwright Bought a HP EX490 MediaSmart Server last week (as soon as they went on sale). Very happy with it. Have all 4 internal drive bays full plus an external USB HDD. Total space is around 4TB.

Chad Choban

Chad Choban Does anyone know of any "wish there was an add-in for..." sites, which are actually taken seriously by developers? A fellow WHS enthusiest and I were speculating at how great it would be if there was a WHS backup program, where friends could actually invite/approve eachother as off-site backup locations. Think about ...it... it could be a mix of backup client (offering full/incremental choices), encryption to encrypt/zip the backup, then FTP client to go to a pre-configured site (a friend's WHS).

Would love to see something like this developed... would PAY for something like this!!! Heck... someone could even come up with a non-WHS desktop client so that a person could let their family do off-site backup to their server.

Wish I had the skills!!!

Just went through this myself, but I had everything on folder duplication. The disk went bad and - oddly - it didn't tell me that the disk was bad... just unavailable. Then, all sorts of database table corruption errors that I couldn't clear.

Was able to back everything up before I re-loaded though, since one disk was still working. Not the same problem, I suppose, but I didn't like it that it didn't really tell me what was going on.

Jamie Does anyone successfully run XBMC (PC) on WHS or within a virtual server that runs on WHS? I'm looking at hardware requirements for running WHS as main OS that can also support virtual clients in something like vmware as well as XBMC, while still trying to maintain a balance between power and "green"
