Bill Miller North American Hunter Well, Winona didn't pan out. We had the cold. We had the snow. We had a great farm with lots of corn food plots, but I guess somebody forgot to clue in the deer. Oh well, time to focus on points south ... like TEXAS ... can't wait!

I grew up in Winona and can relate. There is reasons other than being corn fed why these deer get nice and big in the area... they know where and when to hide.

Jack Moore Good Luck on your upcoming hunt! With the weather change there should be some good activity to get those giant Minnesota bucks on the move!

Bill Miller North American Hunter One last crack at the Minnesota deer coming up this weekend. We're after them with muzzleloaders this time and the forecast is 180 degrees from where it was for opener of gun season. There's a blizzard watch up for Winona for tomorrow night and Wednesday, then the bottom drops out of the thermometer! YES!!! Now we're t...alking weather not just for HUNTING deer, but for SHOOTING one, too. We'll let you know the results.

Bill Miller North American Hunter Where are all the ducks? Just spent two days in the historic Oakwood Bottoms of the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. We were with guys who hit it hard down there from opening day to closing day, but couldn't get on any birds. This fall's crazy weather seems to have the ducks confused, and thus, the hunters... are confounded, too. Have you found the ducks this season?

Bill Miller North American Hunter Just back from hunting ducks in Ohio with Chris Paradise and Dave Nebraska of Mossy Oak. Hunting was good and reconnecting with old friends was even better. Ohio has an incredible waterfowling heritage and history, but it's not that well known today and only 25,000 waterfowl licenses are sold in the state each year. Ri...ght now they need cold weather like the rest of us to move some new birds in.

Bill Miller North American Hunter It's been a tough hunt here near Winona! Federal's Jason Nash and producer Melissa Bachman saw a shooter this morning, but it was on the run with another buck when it came into view and was on the run when it left a second later. We've seen nothing close to a shooter and very few deer overall. The warm temps just seem ...to have shut the rut down completely! November 8 in Minnesota should not be almost 70 degrees!

I agree with the temp not being what it should in MN, but up north, MN near Hinckley, it was still a balmy 60. Opening morning was good to me though with a decent 10 pointer (meat in the freezer). I grew up in Winona, there are some nice deer down there!

Bill Miller North American Hunter Eve of the Minnesota Firearms Deer Opener. Way too warm, way to windy, but there's still excitement and anticipation of what tomorrow will bring! That's what keeps us coming back season after season isn't it? Good luck to each of you on your respective opening days ahead.

Youth hunt starts here in the morning. I have been voted out on taking one of the boys. Daddy is taking one and hubby taking off work to take the other. Can't blame them, Harvest has had their dad busy and they need time with him. Modern gun starts next Saturday.

Bill Miller North American Hunter The NAHC has set up a new social site called Deer Camp. It's all about sharing the traditions and stories that make hunting camp such a great place to spend time. Check it out at: http://northamericanhunter.ning.com/, sign up and create a page to represent your camp. I posted a video to my page last night that we shot... years ago for North American Hunter TV. It tells about a homecoming hunt at the "Waldo Gang" camp not far from Dunbar, Wisconsin. This camp was established in 1911 and ran through 1987. Great memories!

Bill Miller North American Hunter The hunt with Mark Kayser near Broadus, Montana was an incredible success. I took an old 5x5 whitetail and Mark got a great 5x6 mule deer both on camera. We hunted the Powder River Country with Gardner Ranch Outfitters. This is one of Mark's top "GO TO" hunting locations and I can see why! We were a bit early to rattl...e, but we saw hundreds of deer each day. Check out GRO at www.groutfitters.com. They offer terrific, economical hunts for deer, elk and pronghorn.

Bill Miller North American Hunter Beretta's new Green Monster arrived today! The A400 Explor Unico is unveiled in grand style on their international website at www.beretta.com. This is the shotgun I was privileged to shoot at the pre-release press conference several weeks ago. It's a new, designed from the ground up entry into the "one shotgun to do it... all" category. Where many others have failed, I think the Beretta A400 Explor Unico is going to be a huge success. We'll post some more photos from the unveiling next week.

Bill Miller North American Hunter Dug out the rattling horns yesterday for an upcoming trip to Montana for whitetail with Mark Kayser. Finally will get the chance to hunt the Powder River country with him. Lots of deer; big bucks charging into the horns for the camera ... and the .300 Win. It's gonna be tough to sleep between now and then!

Bill Miller North American Hunter Suggested retail price for Beretta's new A400 Explor Unicowill is $1600-$1700. That and what I said yesterday is all I'm allowed to say right now because full info is embargoed until the end of the month. Trust me, Beretta is really doing it right! They’ve already made thousands of the guns and we should actually start... seeing them on dealers shelves in the U.S. by the middle of November!
