you can do trial by mail and send 3 infos, first a photo that your tint complies with PA 096-0815, 2nd PA 096 0815, third A copy of the law that states that municipal law wont over ride PA 096-0815since its not a moving violation.

** this is only my opinion, and i can't be held liable for whatever the outcome will be**

Illinois House Bill 3325 Todd: I sent an email to the Governor's Office asking for an official release about P.A. 096-0815 to Law Enforcement Jurisdictions and Courthouses. I noted that people are still getting harassed about now legal tint under P.A. 096-0815 and the concern of those of you in Chicago about the tint ordinance there. I will let you guys know if I get an answer...

It could be awhile. I sought help from some local politicians regarding my tint and although they followed up to my initial correspondence, they didn't provide any assistance or answers.

Regarding any attempt from Chicago to try to enforce a Home Rule act on tint, anything's possible. I think it's ridiculous, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Until about two weeks ago, drivers could only have their back windows tinted. That's all changed. Now in Illinois you can have your front windows tinted as well, so long as they're not too dark.

I received a ticket in Chicago last year and contested in through the mail. I lost, for obvious reasons. The part that bothered me was that the cop put a bogus time on the ticket and a bogus location where my car was never parked. I tried to fight it based on that, and submitted proof, but the hearing officer didn't budge. It was a crock, but ... See Morefortunately it was only a $25.00 fine at the time.

I had a run in with a state trooper and another Chicago cop prior to the law change, but they were cool about it. I have a bonafide medical condition and that's why I got the tint, unfortunately the gatekeeper at the state was on a power trip and refused to send me the paperwork for the tint plates. Fortunately the law changed and I don't have to deal with the bureaucracy anymore.

Parking tickets are all I ever got. I got pulled over for doing 70 in a 35 and the speeding ticket is all I got. Never had a front plate on my car. And all the cameras I seen take rear license plate tickets. Y not then they can give u a ticket for expired also if they notice it in the Pic.

Illinois House Bill 3325 Todd: The next thing for IL Lawmakers to tackle should be reinstituting Vehicle Inspections... I am tired of seeing tons of mobile deathtraps on the roads each day. I wonder just when someone with bad brakes will slam into my rear. WE NEED TO GET THESE UNSAFE VEHICLES OFF OF ILLINOIS ROADS!

Just had to get my 2005 Volkswagen Passat tested for the first time, thanks to Chicago ordinance. The car has ~20,000 miles on it, uses synthetic oil, and premium gas. Oh yeah, and it failed it's emission test. And for a fee of only a few hundred dollars, the official city approved inspection station was more than happy to look into the issue. ... See MoreChicago inspections do not serve to improve the safety of the residents, but instead to make money for the city, officials, and businesses. The tinting ordinance is a great example. The ordinance was not truly for improving safety, it's fundamental purpose was to make money. Although I agree with the need to get unsafe cars of the road, in Chicago stricter inspections would hurt a lot of families financially while serving only to help city officials clean up their mess. As for the rest of the State, I can't say whether it would be administered fairly or not.

...speaking of unsafe cars.... i need rotors.... really really bad... hope u dont stop suddenly in front of me ..lol... cant afford them tho... gotta pay for $175 speeding ticket, and dont get paid for 2 more weeks.. this is why cars are becoming so 'unsafe'
because the average person cant afford maintenance for their cars... living paycheck to ... See Morepaycheck sucks. and any1 else like me is gonna say that their car isnt exactly on their top 5 priorities... when u cant afford an oil change, how the hell are u gonna be able to pay for rotors and new air filters and all that crap?

Illinois House Bill 3325 Todd: People are still having issues with the fact that officers and judges do not know or do not want to acknowledge that P.A. 096-0815 is law effective 10/30/09. All you can do is maintain your innocence by pleading "Not guilty" pursuant to IL Public Act 096-0815 (as long as your vehicle is equipped legally under P.A. 096-0815).

Todd: light sensitivity is no longer a qualifying criteria. The law basically says that if you have a light sensitivity issue, you can accentuate the legal tint with portable tint called sunglasses...

The qualifying criteria under medical circumstances to allow for darker tint is now set to a small list of diseases that require shielding from the sun.

Illinois House Bill 3325
Illinois House Bill 3325
Todd: It has been said that factory smoked/tinted glass meters in anywhere from 20-29%, but that is irrelevant because it is factory tinted glass and the presence of such qualifies the vehicle for 50% fronts only.

Todd,

Would it even be worth tinting to 50 percent on the front of this vehicle? How dark is it? I can't find any examples. How much lighter would they be compared the the rear windows?

So are you saying the SUV's qualify as MPV's? Or just because it has factory tint it qualifies for 50% fronts. Im a little confused, I had a local tinter tell me because I had tint in the back 30% or lower that I could do nothing on the fronts. I didnt argue, I just read the law 20 times trying to decipher, I have a Mercedes ML350 with factory tint in back that is at least 20%. Thanks!
