Nathan

Nathan Just visited the Salamonie State Forest earlier and discovered that supposedly he trails my family was walking near Hominy Ridge weren't in the no hunting safety zone. That's very dangerous and silly to have only the picnic grounds as "safe" but he trails around it where people walk and the parking lots as not.

Of all the times I've been there I've never seen one only wild turkeys. Then again, living in northern Huntington County means I don't really head there often.

Hey Nathan...if you get there again try looking around the dam area on the downstream side...that's where I've seen most of them.

Kristin Babusiak Does anyone know if the tobaggan slides are open everyday in Pokagon once its winter? Or do they just run on weekends? Also, is there anything to do at Pokagon in the winter besides the tobaggan slide?

Lots to do at Pokagon. Toboggan opens weekend (Fri-Sun) only, but is open everyday during the xmas break period. Nature Center is open with programs, x-country ski rental, ice skating on Lake James, Potawatomi Inn, and more to do.

They have blocked off the eastern half of the main parking lot in preparation for the daylighting project, but I don't believe they've actually started construction yet. Either way, you won't be in the way! Enjoy your hiking.
