Judy: I read your comment this way: let's hope those children can enjoy themselves according to the Afghan culture: the best way for us to lose in Afghanistan is root out the local culture.

agree Greg, you can't be distinctive when someone puts their life on the line for anyone... with all the reading and listening I know that the US is trying to give the Afghan soldiers the best so they can outfit and get them to stand on their own feet so the other countries wont have to stay and do the job that their own peopel will eventurally do... Lets hope it is sooner than later with all the graduating Afghan soldiers they are having lately ...

Perfectly correct that assessment of upsides and downsides of creating local military forces in Afghanistan: we can't simply copy what we did in Iraq.

So by accelerated training are they saying that 80o under trained troops are being set loose on the country? I am in Jalalabad now, and as I appreciate the numbers, I would rather wait a few weeks for better trained soldiers.

You're looking for one guy. In an area the size of Texas and California. Out of 230million people... cut out half because of the females and you still have 115m people. Probably half of those who are more than willing to hide him. And you have maybe 40k troops in the country... that's one soldier to every 3k people on the deck. In an area known as the graveyard of empires. That's not food for thought, that's an easy task.

Junaid: hardcore Taliban guerillas and Islamic terrorists in general [I didn't say Muslim people] are NOT people. Killing them is a very good job because we prevent them from killing people, by killing them we allow people to live. Of course there are also people that shoot at us downrange, and of course we return fire or shoot them before they shoot us: in that case, it's pure self-defense.

One question still on my mind: Who is facilitating weapons to these "Taliban facilitators". Is that the phrase in fashion nowadays? (Taliban facilitators???) The provinces are land-locked. How are they getting the weapons to fight our troops? That said- I sure hope our troops make it back soon. We need their support back home too and we grow weaker each day they are away.

Stanley McChrystal's strategy is kicking IN as we're bashing hardcore Taliban guerillas'heads IN, and talking moderate Taliban OUT of keeping fighting!
