A 15% reduction for all families participating in the Child Care Assistance Program is scheduled to take effect on 11-1-09. Providers will need to assess Nov co-pays under the current rate. It is being recommended that when the new co-pay schedule is provided, that providers work with parents to either refund the diffe...rence or to provide a credit for December’s co-pay. The IDHS webiste (www.dhs.state.il.us) will publish the new rates when it becomes available.Read More

Does iGive have a toolbar like google? I'm searching, but can't find anything yet. So I added iGive.com to a tab when I start Internet Explorer (go to Tools, then Internet Options and add it on a different line like your homepage).

Illinois AEYC Clarification on PA 96-055---The fee increase is the main concern with PA 96-0555. When you call your legislators, please let them know this is a huge increase for small non-profit companies with very small operational budgets and will drastically alter the services that we can provide.

Illinois AEYC Mary W posting. Just was sent another good bit of information regarding the role and importance of play to the development of executive function for children. This is from National Public Radio.

Source: www.npr.org
Elaborate toys, busy schedules and the demise of recess have left children with fewer opportunities for imaginative play — and it shows. Researchers say changing the way children play has changed their emotional and cognitive development.

Illinois AEYC PLEASE TAKE ACTION AND CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS ON PA 96-0555 IMMEDIATELY. This legislation imposes annual ethics training requirements on all registered lobbyists and increases fees from $350 per person/entity to $1,000. It will be detrimental to Illinois AEYC. Call your legislators to change the newly signed bill that will go into effect Jan 1. Do not let them tell you that it is too late to make changes to the law.

Why can't this be included for IEP? Also FAS should qualify for an IEP. Things need to be changed in the school system to get these kids more help!!

Laura, Mary W speaking. Under IDEA there are a broad range of disabilities. It isn't that SPD (sensory processing disorders) or FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) are excluded, they simply fall within the purview of the existent list. Information and goals specific to them should be a part of a youngster's IEP (Individual Education Plan) or Family Plan for the 0-3's.

Just came back to hotel from a lovely experience ..... I'm at the national DEC (Council of Exceptional Children Division for Early Childhood) conference. Opening keynote was Dan Habib, the father, photo journalist who created a wonderful documentary film that we watched and heard him speak about. Look for "Including Sa...muel" – on PBS. It will be aired Sunday Nov 8 Chicago WTTW 2pm – only IL station I found on their list—call your local pbs station to urge them to broadcast the film. And check out www.includingsamuel.com for list of broadcasts, useful resources; watch a film trailer there. (submitted by Mary Wonderlick)Read More

Illinois AEYC Autism Resource. A couple of weeks ago our NAEYC e-newsletter mentioned this. In case you missed it, here is the info again. http://www.autismspeaks.org/whatisit/talking_to_parents_action_kit.php

Source: www.autismspeaks.org
Today, 1 in 150 American children is diagnosed with autism. As an early childhood educator, you may be the first to notice when a child is not meeting typical developmental milestones. When this happens, you need to talk to the parents and urge them to have their child screened.
