Matthew Orr

Matthew Orr I just saw an aweome photojournalism documentary "War Photographer," about James Nachtwey. Thoroughly recomend people see it. It seems he has two bodies with him at all times. Anyone take a guess or know what lenses he has with those two bodies?

Sorry should mention that he shoots Canon, but was also wondering what similar lens for Nikon.

Probably the two that he finds consistently useful for his particular style of shooting? :)

Mike Minik I've got a D700 and was considering a D3s for the video and crazy ISO. I think I may wait for the D700s (or D800) instead. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I don't think there's an obvious answer, as it really depends on what you want. Questions you should ask yourself: how do you feel about the much greater bulk and weight of a D3s, how frequently will you use the expanded ISO range, are you convinced you'll use video, etc. While I'm certain there will be a follow-on to the D700, there are no ... Read Moreannounced specs, so it's not easy to trade that hypothetical camera against the current D3s or your D700. In my case, I like the larger size unless I'm trying to be less conscipuous or I'm walking long distances. The video isn't something I'd likely use.

Thanks Rick. The ISO is something I believe I'll find useful as my children are in grade school playing indoor basketball, volleyball and etc. They play in gyms that are notable for their terrible lighting so I wind up boosting my ISO to as much as H1 to catch action.

I am using an MBD-10 right now to increase the frame rate so I think I will be OK with the extra bulk.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

Looking forward to the LR3 Beta discussion. I loaded it but didn't see a whole lot of new stuff. The biggest change I saw was the import screen. Hopefully you guys can tell me what I missed!

There are a lot of subtle evolutionary changes across the interface to speed things up. Some aren't obvious at first glance. Noise reduction is being revamped (work in progress) and initial indications are that it's an excellent improvement. Code is being rewritten to speed up processing times. Keep in mind that 3.0 isn't done yet, so some of the planned improvements aren't done yet (and some aren't announced yet).

$$$$Warning. The British magazine "Outdoor PHotography," recommended in Epioside #104, is VERY expensive here in Ottawa Canada. The declared cover price of 12.00 British pounds was marked up to $39.95 Canadian at one of the city's highest-volume (and therefore usually cheaper) magazine outlets. With taxes that came to ...nearly $45. Some of the books recommended by Jason and Rick cost less, even here.

Also note that "Outdoor PHotography" is, in effect, a repacking of some material from the excellent UK magazine "Digital Photographer" which I buy on the newstands regularly for much less. Equipment review content looks very similar. Same editor.
Website does not offer subscriptions to "Outdoor Photography" even in the U.K. I suspect issues are less than monthy since nothing about frequency in current Issue 5.
Outdoor Photographer (US) looks like the better buy. At least here in Canada where we can subscribe for a reasonable amount

It definitely sounds like something different. I got the same deal that Jason mentions and while it's not the cheapest magazine in existence, it's a quality publication.

Good news update. The REAL "Outdoor Photography" from Britain is available at Ottawa's largest magazine store, for $11.75 Cdn plus tax, for $13.28 total. It's very good and I intend to subscribe because 56.70 pounds for a year works out to $8.34 Cdn an issue, a consuderable savng.
The location guides are even useful since I usually visit the U.K. once a year. Thanks to Rick and Jason for the tip.
