Inspire Natural Therapies

Inspire Natural Therapies One of my main inspirations in my herbal work, Mother Aubert is one of New Zealand's pioneers in healing. This is an old article, but an interesting one. I've since used formulas based on her blends, made by Self Heal, in my own clinic.

Inspire Natural Therapies It's cold and flu season over here. Essential oils are great in the oil burner, sprayed around the room or on surfaces (the ones we won't be eating off) or for baths or tissues. I love lemon, cinnamon, rosemary and eucalyptus. And then a lavender bath before bed, always makes me feel less.... icky. That's a medical term in my world :o)

Inspire Natural Therapies Bath melts. Easy and heavenly. Melt 20g Cocoa butter, 6g other soft butter (eg: shea) & 2g Beeswax. Add 1ml base oil, remove from heat and add essential oils, drop by drop eg: lavender melts, use only 1-2 drops EO. Pour into molds. Freeze briefly (no more than 15 minutes) and pop out once set. Take care getting out of the bath, it will be slippery. Enjoy!

Hey Marie. That's for the whole lot. You can add more, but you really don't need much at all if you're using good quality oils. My old mantra. Write every drop down and then next time you can adjust, if you need to.
I did, it was great thank...s. Hope you did too!See More

Inspire Natural Therapies Usually, I don't recommend using essential oils internally, without some research. But here's an easy recipe for old fashioned mints. Fold an egg white into 250g icing sugar, until stiff. Add 150g caster sugar and 1t peppermint EO and mix to a stiff paste, add more sugar if needed. Roll into balls and leave to set. Easy!

Inspire Natural Therapies Karen's deep heat alternative. Make a basic massage wax by melting 7g beeswax in your double boiler and adding 50ml of any base oil(s). Remove from heat once remelted and add up to 5 drops wintergreen essential oil. You can add a drop or two of peppermint or other invigorating oils, until you're happy with the scent. P...our into a pot and use on those sore muscles.

Inspire Natural Therapies A favourite creative project - rice packs. Using long grain rice, make the equivalent of a wheat pack, just with the raw rice instead. No need to put a cup of water in the microwave with these, for hot packs. Keep a couple in the freezer for using as cold packs. Shake the rice with essential oils before filling the ...fabric, for a lovely change. Always use cotton thread, when working with wheat and rice packs.

Inspire Natural Therapies My favourite first aid kit item - Comfrey Balm. Great for cuts, bruises, sprains, even breaks (also called Knitbone). Just infuse the leaf & root with olive oil to make a herbal oil and add to melted beeswax. Remelt and pour into pots. Ratio is 7g wax to 50ml oil. I add a drop of lemon essential oil, as a preservative.... Kids know they can use it on anything at all, mine help me make it and have their own pot. Easy!

Inspire Natural Therapies What would you say to people, if you had one last lecture to give before you died? How would you inspire them to be all they can be? What were your childhood dreams and have you achieved them? I wanted to be a marine biologist and achieved that one, before I retrained. I also wanted to marry Johnny Depp. One out of two ain't bad.

Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch (Oct. 23, 1960 - July 25, 2008) gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving presentation, "Really Achieving ...

Inspire Natural Therapies Stress. It's like a plank of wood, with each new stress being like a brick put on it. Many small bricks can cause the plank to bend & finally break, if support isn't given. We all need to find what helps us reduce the load, whether it's talking about it, changing diet & lifestyle or doing something we love. And we need... to realise that it's normal to feel overloaded sometimes. And be kind to ourselves.

Inspire Natural Therapies Mullein is a favourite earache remedy, when a dr isn't needed. For basic aches or to soften wax there's nothing better than mullein-infused oil. Just pick the flowers (make sure you identify them correctly!) and put them fresh into a jar of olive oil, swirling every few days. Keep in a warm place out of the sun and aft...er a month, filter the oil and bottle. A few drops really helps soothe the ears, naturally.

          • Inspire Natural Therapies Keep in mind that if pain persists, you need to see a health professional. This is just a basic traditional remedy for soothing. Acute pain needs more attention than this.

Inspire Natural Therapies Bee stings (timely due to bare feet and my children!) - my favourite remedy after taking out the sting is to roll up some plantain (ribwort) and press the juicy leaves onto the skin. It draws out the nasties and cleans the area, soothing and healing. A great herb for cuts, too. Wrap wounds in a leaf if you're out and ...about, it staunches bloodflow and helps to heal. I hope you all enjoyed your Easter!

          • Inspire Natural Therapies This morning my son managed to get another one. I think he attracts any bee in the area! No plantain, so I resorted to the good old baking soda made into a paste with water. And hugs. I always remember it this way... Bee for baking soda and Winegar for wasps ;o)

Inspire Natural Therapies Welcome to a new week. A great essential oil to get you uplifted and ready for whatever comes your way is Lemon. Some Japanese banks burn the oil in diffusers to help reduce worker error. Zesty and refreshing, have some handy either for your oil burner, on a tissue or in a spray bottle. For those Monday morning moments... when you just need a boost, inhale deeply and think about the great week you're about to have.
