The Institute of Texan Cultures will display a traditional altar for El Dia De Los Muertos, the “Day of the Dead,” Saturday, Oct. 24 – Saturday, Nov. 7.
El Dia is believed to have emerged from a combination of Aztec ancestor worship and Spanish C...atholicism into an observance that honors both traditions. Celebrated on All Souls Day, Nov. 2, the Mexican tradition continues to gain prominence in San Antonio. El Dia honors deceased relatives and friends, believing that their spirits return to the physical world to visit.Read More

UTSA's Institute of Texan Cultures Sherrie Matthews has accepted a Multimedia Editor III position at the Institute of Texan Cultures and began work on Oct. 5, 2009. Her responsibilities include the maintenance of the institute’s website at TexanCultures.com and the preparation of texts to be incorporated into the institute’s exhibits.
