Negotiations in Honduras between the democratically elected President Zelaya and Micheletti’s de facto regime are deadlocked. The U.S. administration and Congress are embracing Honduran elections on Nov 29th as a solution in spite of the continued human rights violations by military forces. Broad sectors of civil socie...ty point out that ongoing repression and censorship make elections impossible in this time frame and indicate they will boycott if constitutional order is not returned. Calls and notes to the State Department (202-647-4000), National Security Council (http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/) and Congress are critical. The message should be no agreement, no support of elections—push for a return to constitutional order.Read More

Looks like women of the world are finally getting an independent and hopefully well-FUNDED women's institution within the UN!!! You many not realize that today, UNIFEM is merely a department within UNDP and not a stand alone entity with high level decisionmaking. It also has less 1/80th of the resources. So this is imp...ortant -- for the possibility of moving our agendas forward.
