JMU College of Business Business students are helping local families have a Happy Thanksgiving. More than 700 students donated approximately 2500 items to the Boys and Girls Club. The business school’s Diversity Council sponsored the initiative.

Members of the CoB Diversity Council asked students to donate items to help feed families in the ar...ea. Thursday and Friday, Professor Charles Baril, other faculty and students, loaded up canned vegetables, stuffing, desserts and other items that would supplement a turkey dinner. They delivered the items to the club where club members helped unload and organize.

Would you like to become more involved within the Harrisonburg community?

As students of Mrs. Hamilton’s College of Business Interpersonal Skills 202 class, our group was formed to strategize communication tools to assist Friendly City Food Cooperative with their Big Push in op...ening a fresh and local grocery store in the Downtown area of Harrisonburg, VA. Our group recognizes the great benefits that the Friendly City Food Co-op can bring to the Harrisonburg and JMU communities and we hope to inform others of them as well.

After five years of hard work, the Co-op has finally reached the last stages prior to their store opening. Those already involved with the Co-op asked the community for help in four specific areas to hopefully be completed prior to January of 2010. These four goals of The Big Push include increasing membership to 1,000 members, raising $600,000 in member loans, securing financing, and signing a site lease. Since September when The Big Push began, it has been announced that the Co-op has secured their first position loan of $484,600, they have launched a member loan campaign, and they just recently announced their store location at 150 E Wolfe Street in downtown Harrisonburg.
