The Jackson Zoo Guess what three "boys" have a Birthday tomarrow? Our three tigers were born 11-24-05 – and arrived here December 23, 2008 from the Sacramento Zoo. The brothers named Kipling, Taymor and Emerson, all weigh at least 300 lbs. They get a special surprize around 10:30 a.m. tomarrow!
The Jackson Zoo Two new birds at the Zoo! The Long-billed Corella is a cockatoo native to Australia. This species is mostly white, with a reddish face around the beak and the forehead area. It uses its beak to dig for roots, seeds and bulbs. Corollas form monogamous pairs and both sexes share the task of building the nest, caring for the eggs and young.

All animals at the zoo get annual check-ups, and if there has been any noted change in behaviour the exam is extensive. The male cougar "Cooper" who is now 16 years old had been moving a little slower, so Dr. Walker and Vet Tech Donna Todd did a full exam including blood draws...

Military veterans will be admitted to the Jackson Zoo free Wednesday, November 11, 2009, in recognition of Veterans Day. This free admission is for active military personnel, military veterans and their families. The free admission is offered as the Zoo’s gratitude for those that serve our country.
Military personnel …will receive free admission during the Zoo’s normal operational hours from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11th. Visitors must show their military ID, veteran organization ID, discharge papers or other official military identification to be given free admission. All immediate family members with military personnel also receive free admission on Nov. 11th. Jackson Zoo offers a discount throughout the year of $1 off admission for military personnel and their families.

The Jackson Zoo Important Change! Boo at the Zoo is canceled for tonight (Friday the 30th) due to major soaking heading our way! BUT Saturday the 31st is still on - starting earlier at 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
