Journal of Urban Mission [Why urban mission?] The biblical drama starts in a Garden and ends in a City. The Garden itself is the seed of New Jerusalem. The cultural mandate is an urban mandate, a decree to build cities--to multiply citizenry, to construct urban architecture, to develop governing structures of shalom... to construct an urban, j...ust, and God-glorifying culture. Despite the Fall, God's urban design will triumph in the end.

Journal of Urban Mission [Why urban mission?] The poor-the VIP of the kingdom of God-are coming to the cities. Christianity expanded throughout the Roman Empire mainly through the urban poor; this is still so in today's globalizing world. The Church is again called to honor the "outsiders" of this world as true "insiders" in God's kingdom, sho...wcasing... God's grace in its social structure and witnessing against the structure of this world.

Journal of Urban Mission [Why urban mission?] The world is coming to the cities. No longer do we have to travel halfway around the world to reach the nations, because the nations have come to us. We are in an age of unprecedented levels of global people movements and our cities are the crossroads. Will the Church rise up to the challenge, and ...embrace her calling as God's Missionary People in our cities?

Journal of Urban Mission [Why urban mission?] Our future is urban. For the first time in history, more people now live in cities than in rural areas. The future of the Church will be shaped significantly by the answer to the question: Will the Church reach the world's cities for the sake of the gospel or not?
