One thought on the healthcare not being a 'for-profit' business...should that become the case, who's going to put themselves through 8 years of school, residency, etc., not to mention $300k+ of debt to become a doctor when there's no chance of recouping those funds? Not that there aren't truly altruistic doctors out there...but some of them just wanna get paid and after what they go through, can't blame them. Are we going to end up with substandard doctors under this system?

Well you raise a good question and it goes to what is reasonable compensation if you were to take malpractice costs and loan costs out of there. I know it sounds crazy but friends of mine in the Netherlands received free public tuition and a stipend for food, and basic living expenses. Travel on the country's superior train and public transit infrastructure was also covered. So the problem that we have is that U.S. would need to tackle so many different areas (education, infrastructure, transit, tax policy, etc.) in order to have a coherent useful policy. These kinds of changes, if they were ever to be implemented would take the length of a generation to complete and the honest hard work of our citizens and elected leaders. But that will never happen because the game of politics is too much fun and there are too many opportunities for short term gain and large profits.

That being said, I like the game of politics. It keeps a a roof over my head.
