KUHF Houston Public Radio Tonight, KUHF and the Menil Collection host a special evening in honor of KUHF's 60th anniversary with a chamber music ensemble recital and reception. The evening marks the first performance in KUHF's year-long celebration of special events. Tonight at 6pm. Admission is free.

Bill Shaw: a man after my own heart. Yes, Bill, NPR is civil (unlike the blood-thirsty talk radio mob), thoughtful, pensive, reflective, not in a hurry to come to conclusions, and the incidental music at the end of a piece encourages listeners to think about what they've heard. I can't count the times I have brought into a conversation one of the stories from NPR, be it polar bears, Zhanna Arshanskaya, or "social networking" on the web.

BBC on KUHF is great, too.

I make my living trying to turn young(er) people on to classical music, and I'm pretty darned successful at it, thank you, and no small thanks to KUHF. While I appreciate (even crave!) some of the non-musical programming on KUHF, it cannot lose sight of its mission as an arts beacon to Houston. Don't forget, what we now call classical was once the U2, MJ, and Beatles of its day-- and still as relevant.

BTW, I'm 42, hardly a codger. Though occasionally a curmudgeon.
