Kepler Mission

Kepler Mission Kepler completed another science data download over October 18-19. In this download, a month’s worth of science data was transmitted through the NASA Deep Space Network and into the Science Operations Center at Ames Research Center. After the download was complete, the Kepler spacecraft was returned to its science collection attitude and another cycle of science data collection began.

Kepler Mission

Kepler Mission The largest telescope ever built for a NASA mission soared beyond Earth’s orbit on March 7, 2009, looking not for ET, but rather ET’s home. The Kepler mission is hunting for planets in the habitable zone and may confirm the existence of other Earth-size and smaller planets. Or it may not. Either answer will be profound, and a rigorous systems engineering program was needed to address the question.

Sunspots don't cross the disc in 12 hours,
only a planet does.
During that time a planetary light curve will follow a typical limb-darkening profile.

Kepler Mission

Kepler Mission remains in its science attitude and Earth-trailing, helio-centric orbit. The spacecraft is nearing 9,000,000 miles distance from Earth. All Kepler systems are now nominal as it continues to survey its target stars, looking for Earth-sized planets.

I gather that the "Earth-trailing orbit" means that Kepler is at the L2 Lagrangian point. But the Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kepler_telescope for Kepler says that the orbital period is 372.5 days. Why is it not the same as the Earth, 365 (+/- 1, I suppose, to account for Earth's rotation)?
