Kirsten Gillibrand I was so proud to stand with Rep. Carolyn McCarthy today as we announced our new gun trafficking prevention bill. The Gun Trafficking Prevention Act will give federal law enforcement the tools they need to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and save lives.

Kirsten Gillibrand I'm so proud the Senate has voted to proceed to debate on the health reform bill. There's still a lot of work left to do but this was an important first step.

Kirsten Gillibrand I look forward to voting to allow the Senate health reform bill to proceed to debate tomorrow night and I urge the entire Democratic caucus to do the same.

Kirsten Gillibrand I was on MSNBC with Andrea Mitchell earlier to discuss the Stupak amendment. You can watch it below. We must defeat this dangerous measure in the Senate and strip it from the final bill. Sign the Stop Stupak petition: http://bit.ly/1p07Ds

Kirsten Gillibrand On this Veteran's Day, far too many veterans are coming home to a very bad job market and unable to find work. They fulfilled their duty to our country, and now it's time for us to fulfill our duty to them by making sure they have access to a good-paying job. The tax breaks we put in place earlier this year are a win-w...in for businesses and veterans, but we need to make sure businesses know they are available. That's why I'm making a personal pitch to the business owners I meet to hire a vet and take advantage of the tax credit.

All of us Vets are struggling in this mess Washington has created, and let's face it...It took us eight years to get this way, so it can't be cured overnight folks. Patience!!

Thats Funny took 8 years to make this mess?? Fannie Mae was created in 1938! The roots of this downturn and bubble start directly with the creation of Fannie Mae. starting with the Carter administration banks were forced to make loans to people who couldnt pay them back. Greedy and arogant Ivy league economists made up ways to hide and try to ... See Moremake profits from from these poor loans. Sure the easy thing is to Blame Bush for this, this has been coming on for many years. The more Government takes over the Economy the more we are doomed to poverty. Thats what you get when lawyers run the country! Time to kick out the lawyers and get a better cross section of our population to run this Country only then will Common Sense come back.

Kirsten Gillibrand Congratulations to the House of Representatives for passing landmark health insurance reform legislation with a public option Saturday night. I do, however, strongly oppose the Stupak amendment in the House bill. It's discriminatory toward women and I hope we can strip it from the final bill.

Kirsten Gillibrand While we finally passed an extension of unemployment benefits after weeks of GOP delay tactics, today's unemployment number is a dire indication of how deep the current crisis has pushed our economy. We must take additional, immediate steps to help save and create jobs.

Kirsten Gillibrand I'm pleased to report that we have finally taken action to extend unemployment benefits. The legislation we passed today will help millions of New Yorkers who were hit hardest by the economic downturn as they continue to search for work. This was long overdue.

Recognizing that a weak economy still needs a government boost, the Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to provide the jobless with up to 20 weeks in additional unemployment benefits and expand a first-time ...

Does the extension apply to everyone, or just to people whose benefits will end by Dec. 31?

What the Senate did in passing the last bill HR3548 did not help anyone that will loose his or her unemployment benefits after January 1st 2010. It is only those whose benefits will expire on or before December 31st 2009. What about the unemployed losing benefits during the winter months of January and February (less than 14 weeks away)?

The ... See MoreCongress and Senate need to extend the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program prior to the end of 2009 (before the holiday recess) to ensure that all jobless workers can be paid the additional weeks of EUC now provided under the November 2009 extensions!
Thank you.

Kirsten Gillibrand Theo and Henry had a great time this weekend trick or treating. You can check out our photo below. Henry was Spiderman this year and Theo was a Star Wars clone trooper. They stormed the neighborhood for candy. Great Halloween fun for the Gillibrand family.

Thank you for sharing this photo, Senator Gillibrand--something of a trip down memory lane, I must confess, as your post served to bring back many a fond memory of the carefree, joyous times-of-old spent with our two girls, Lucrezia and Ludovica (now 21 and 24 respectively).

May you enjoy these precious formative years while they last; time has a way of.. flying by all-too-quickly!

Warmly,... See More

Kirsten Gillibrand Thanks to all in the grassroots and netroots who have been fighting for the public option. It's because of your advocacy that we've gotten as far as we have but we still have far to go. Keep up the good work and I promise to keep fighting in the Senate.

As you know, on Monday, Majority Leader Reid sent a merged Senate health care bill to the CBO that contained a public option with an opt out provision for states. This represents a major victory for proponents of real health care reform. ...

Kirsten Gillibrand I'm proud to be on the Environment and Public Works Committee where hearings on the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act began yesterday. This bill will be crucial to reducing our emissions, reversing the effects of climate change and creating the green jobs economy of the future.

Kirsten Gillibrand Senator Reid has confirmed that he will be bringing a bill to the Senate that has a public option with an opt out provision for states. I agree with Senator Reid that including a public option is the best way to increase competition and bring costs down and am thrilled he has taken this step.

Kirsten Gillibrand I expect that the hearing on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will take place next month after the confirmation hearing for Marine General Clifford Stanley. There is a lot more support in Congress for full repeal of DADT than people realize.
