Layne Nelson

Layne Nelson I use recycled plastic timbers for my raised beds. The white is 2X10 tongue & groove, the gray 2X12 square. The bottom is covered with a layer of 1/4" hardware cloth and 2" of landscape rocks to keep pest from coming up under. I've still had rabbits sitting in the bed eating greens, and deer nipping off a few buds. A n...ew bit od chicken wire took care of that. I had a mouse make his home in some thicker meculin growth, but he didn't last long.

Landscape rocks are a good idea to keep the access from under closed. Good drainage too.

It dries pretty quickly. drainage had not been an issue. It's sitting on old river bottom from centuries ago when the Mississippi was cutting through.

One of our customers in Australia commented that the collars would be safe from attack if they were “…isolated from the potential breeding and living areas of the white ants such as dark crevices around the external walls of buildings etc. They [termites] only nest in complete darkness (in trees, under floor boards etc)...” The collars’ isolation should do the job, I suppose, though I have to admit that I have no personal experience with these creatures myself.
