      Hi Huy,

      The prompt tells you that Area Triangle = Area Square. The area of the square is easy... it = s^2. How about the area of the triangle? Well, we need a base and height. We can pick any side as the base and drop a perpendicular lin...e from the opposite angle to that side and make it the height.

      So, t = base. What is the height? There are 2 ways to find the height.

      Fast way:
      Recognize that if you cut an equilateral triangle in half you will get a 30/60/90 special right triangle. Special right triangles are a big part of GMAT geometry. You must learn the fixed ratio of a 30/60/90 triangle as well as that of a 45/45/90 triangle and also recognize where to find them when they are hidden in larger shapes.

      The ratio of a 30/60/90 triangle is 1:root(3):2. We know the smaller leg (half the base) = t/2. That means the larger leg (the height) must = t/2 * root(3) = t*root(3)/2.

      Slow way:
      If you don't recognize it is a special right triangle, then you must use the Pythagorean theorem. a^2+b^2=c^2.

      (half the base)^2 + height^2 = hypotenuse^2
      (t/2)^2+h^2=t^2
      h^2 = (3t^2 / 4)
      h=root(3t^2 / 4)
      h=t*root(3)/2 <-- we don't care about negative roots in geometry

      Both the fast and slow ways give you an area of b*h/2 = [(t)(t*root(3)/2]/2 = t^2*root(3)/4.

      So, if the areas of the triangle and square are equal, then:

      s^2 = t^2*root(3)/4

      Take the root of both sides (again we don't care about negative roots):

      s = t*fourthroot(3)/2
      t/s = 2/fourthroot(3) which is answer C.

      I hope this helps!
