Kokkalis Program Boris Begovic is president of the Center for Liberal-Democratic Studies (CLDS), in Belgrade, Serbia, and a professor of economics at the School of Law, University of Belgrade. He received his education at the University of Belgrade, London School of Economics, and Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education. His field o...f expertise includes industrial organization, economic analysis of law, economic growth, economics of competition policy, and urban economics. Begovic was a chief economic adviser of the Federal Government of Yugoslavia (Serbia & Montenegro) between 2000-2002, where he was mainly involved in negotiations with IFIs, WTO accession and foreign trade liberalization, price liberalization and foreign debt rescheduling. Begovic’s recent publications include: Corruption: An Economic Analysis (2007), Greenfield FDIs in Serbia (2008), Economics for Lawyers (2008) and From Poverty to Prosperity: Free Market Based Solutions (2008). He is currently preparing Institutional Aspects of Economic Growth.

Dr. Baskin Oran, one of Turkey’s boldest scholars, will deliver a
series of six lectures at Harvard University between October 19-November 4. Sponsored by the Kokkalis Program, the series—Western Impact and Turkey—will
examine a number of issues including modernization and westernization,
religion-state relations, identity conflicts, and minority rights.

Kokkalis Program
Andreas Kakouris is the former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to Ireland (2002-2006). Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to Ireland he held the position of the Director of the Political Affairs Division (Multilateral Affairs), at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cyprus (200...0-2002) during which time he represented Cyprus to the European Union – Associate Countries Political Directors Meetings and was the Senior Official for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
Ambassador Kakouris’ career is highlighted by his representations of Cyprus in numerous international conferences. He was a Delegate to successive UN General Assembly sessions from 1984 to 1992, during which period he covered Fourth Committee (decolonization), Second Committee (economic) and First Committee (disarmament) issues.

Kokkalis Program
Egemen Bagis was first elected to Parliament in 2002 as a deputy of Istanbul. He was appointed as Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator on January 2009 and has been working for full membership negotiations of Turkey since then.
Bagis was the party's Vice Chairman in charge of Foreign Affairs and as a Vice Chairm...an, he had been a member of AK Party's Central Executive Committee, the party's highest body until 2009.
Bagis was the party's contact person for international relations and diplomacy. He directed and coordinated the party's national and international network and local branches on foreign policy matters. He also coordinated the flow of key global developments to the party leadership.
