Just because Andy Wellman shows how to climb those two routes in his way on the video and the viewers watch it, it doesn't automatically make the viewers need this flick to nail those routes as you assume.
Everybody has different physique and doesn't make Andy's move the right way. As you wrote, figuring out by yourself is a part of climbing worthwhile.
Some people might actually need the flick as you assume. But it's their choice, don't you think?

Everybody has his or her own points and philosophy of how to approach bouldering/climbing. Whether you like it or not, there are hundreds of videos like this on the net and market. If it doesn't go with yours, then you have a choice not to watch.
I liked the flick because it's always good to see people enjoy climbing and being able to see other climbing ares.

hope it encourages more people to check out the bouldering there, the slopers are fantastic! the owner of the land is a bit cranky, but don't get on his bad side because he remembers EVERY face forever and will deny entrance at his disgression
