Lilly Ledbetter Today is Equal Pay Day. That means today marks the point in 2009 when the average woman’s wages finally catch up with those paid to the average man in 2008. I just posted a note with some of my thoughts on this: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=

When President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law, I knew that it was just the beginning of real change to come for working women. Today, Equal Pay Day, reminds us that there is still a lot of work to be done and that we can’t afford to give up anytime soon. ...

Dear Lilly,

My name is Matt Conn and I am a MSW graduate student at the University of Kentucky. Though I attend school in Kentucky, I reside and work (employed by Scioto County Children Services) in Portsmouth, OH. I am currently taking a Community and Family Policy class. As one of our assignments, we were asked to conduct an interview on supporters on a policy of our choice. I have chosen the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009.

I can conduct the interview via email. I would really appreciate any information that anyone in your organization could provide to me. I have several questions I would like to ask you in regards to this act. I understand that you must be extremely busy but if you would allow me to interview you, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! My friend, Jamie Carver (who's facebook page I am using) is also in the class and is employed with me at Children Services as well.... Read More

Tonight, Tuesday, August 26, at approximately 9:00 p.m. Eastern I am scheduled to speak at the Democratic National Convention.

I'm going to be speaking about our fight for fair pay for women to millions of people around the country — and even around the world.

The movement in support of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act i...s catching on — but we still need your help. Please spread the word about my appearance at the convention by sending the eCard below to your friends, family, and co-workers.

Ms. Ledbetter,
You are so correct. The discrimination of women recieving fair pay is alive and well. I am in the pharmaceutical industry and I see the pay discreptacy all the time. In fact, I have even been told by male bosses that as a woman, I should not be making this amount of money. What is ironic is our company continualy claims that they do... I am also a sole parent of a young child and have also been told that is a problem concerning my job.
All I want to do is earn a nice living and provide for my child. But I constantly feel I fight for pay and justify my postion.
Thank you.
