Fresh install on an older Dell Latitude D505. Total install time was about 30 minutes, and I add all my data restored inside of 1 hour from start of installation. So far it's running very smooth. Had 1 minor glitch installing Wine but got it resolved.

It's okay if you are not a headhunter and this is a real job opening, not a resume collecting effort for some government contract bid. We will leave this up for now, but we would like to know the details about the opening,

I am not a head hunter. This is for two open positions on my team, plus one on the applications team. I'm motivated by not wanting to be the only guy on-call all the time, not some bonus if I bring someone else in. Don't try to discuss salary with me because I'm not the hiring manager, and I can't promise anything in that regard. All I can say ... Read Moreis it's an exciting company to work for, we use a lot of open source, and the team we have is really great.

Details are at http://www.reachlocal.com/careers/11, and I guess we have some developer positions as well.

William Dowden

William Dowden Just installed (recently) Fedora 11 in a dual boot mode on my dual hard drive desktop; it recognized just about all my hardware and got me really current with the latest Linux stuff. However, I did have to put in an old ATI Rage Pro video card because the installed video driver would not recognize the video chip on the cheap motherboard I had.

Dakota Danielle Rivero

Dakota Danielle Rivero I currently have ubuntu 9.04 on my touchsmart iq503. raving about it, but can anyone help me re-enable my touchscreen? it currently doesn't work :\

Software Freedom Innovations Windows 7 dominated the news in the Computer World as Apple quietly introduced an enhanced line of Macs along with a the Mac Mini Server. Now we are only two days from the release of Ubuntu's Karmic Koala Long Term Support (LTS) Distribution. We would like to read comments from all of you that are already using Karmic, as well the Ubuntu users that are waiting for the offical release on Thursday. (Mike Feravolo)

Ubuntu is a community developed, Linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need - a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more.
Corey Bender

Corey Bender I would seem to have to say that my favorite distro(s) are Jaunty and Mint. I have the best luck with these 2. I try to get along with Fedora because my course work uses it but I find myself doing as much as I can in Ubuntu over Fedora!

Eric Colangelo

Eric Colangelo Linux above all !

Declan Cooper

Declan Cooper Hello,

I just got my mother to convert to a dual-boot Windows Linux for her HP all in one. She was working in Win7, and got upset with a background process interfering with her typing email (not sure what was going on).

However, since then she is staying in Ubuntu for now while I help her. She is 73. Just an FYI

Corey Bender

Corey Bender I have a Windows Home Server that stores all my media and does automatic nightly back ups of my pc's, can/is there a Linux Server distro that can do the same? I currently have no experience with Linux Servers!

Ok, fair enough. The server that speaks the same language as Windows is called Samba. All of the mainstream distros have packages for it. The default settings for it are good enough that it will run right after installing it. At that stage, it might not do exactly what you want, so you'll have to get your hands dirty and configure it. There ... Read Moreare plenty of examples online and there are two full books that come with the source distribution (at least they used to), both the O'Reilly book and the Official Samba How-to And Reference Guide.

Out of curiosity, where do you live? Perhaps if you tell me, someone else who lives near you will come out of the woodwork.

That is the problem with Linux (the users), It's great and all and does what it does well, but everyone shouldn't be expected to jump right in and get their hands dirty.

What needs to happen is someone needs to develop specialty distros that easily address needs that replace Home Server and things like that.

I'm a Linux Users and Love Linux, but... Read More I can't tell the typical Windows User to switch to Linux because it's great, when the is "Always" some assembly required. I equate Linux to a Kit Car as opposed to a automobile from GM.
