How to really annoy Anglican clergyYou can offer whiskey instead of Gin – some Anglican clergy find that slightly irksome. You can deny the validity of Anglican sacraments – Anglican clergy without a sense of humour can find that irritating. But if you really want to annoy Anglican cl...

Well in the Scottish Episcopal Church Blue 'Tippets' mean a lay preacher. Saying that though will we still wear tipets with Rome? Maybe now Anglo-Catholics in the USA might actualy have their cassocks reach their shoes!!! LOL. Saying that awaiting the new "ordinary' from the Ordinary telling us speedo swimming truns are now part of the full liturgical vestments along with an amice and maniple. Off to go practice my breast stroke in 'Orans' position.

The Church did not agree on what was in the Bible until the Fourth Century, and still does not agree. The books of the Bible is indeed God's word - to a specific group of persons at a particular time and place. We cannot limit God in accordance with human opinion. God did not stop speaking at the close of the scriptural canon. As Christians, we believe God was revealed to us through Jesus. Thus, Jesus is the litmus test through which we must view God's past and present words to us.

Halloween – A Vigil for All Saints Today on the feast of All Saints many read what are called the Beatitudes. They are probably one of the most famous passages in the Bible. We don’t use the word beatitude much – it comes from the Latin beatus meaning happy or blissful. More of that in a [...]

Mel Gibson thinks the Pope is not catholic and some say that Rome should return to Constantinople. So Rome is peter and peter was married and Rome commands the successors of peter cannot marry because their authority comes from Christ thru peter who was married. If the pope is peter then He would be married

David, your last reflection appears to be unrelated to this post - and seems to be a reflection on the two blog posts "Anglican Rite?" and "marriage and ordination".

I don't know your age, David, but some will remember a time not that long ago when such a statement from Rome would have been startling indeed.

I think you & some others here ... Read Moregrossly overestimate the regularity of Christian reading of the scriptures. To have the leader of half of the world's Christians exhort daily Bible reading is, IMO, significant. I am a little surprised that it is greeted with some negativity and comparisons between different Christian leaders and even Mel Gibson!

"When I ask – what is the theology around this?"
All of the theology seems to be contrary to the tradition:
Levitical priesthood:
Eze 44:22 Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.

Why isn't this more important than the answer to the question? I mean, why doesn't it preclude or preempt the question, "The contention is that there is no evidence in the Tradition of marriage after ordination. What is the difference between marriage before and marriage after ordination?"

Strange that the ordination ceremony would begin with this warning: "You ought anxiously to consider again and again what sort of a burden this is which you are taking upon you of your own accord. Up to this you are free. You may still, if you choose, turn to the aims and desires of the world" in regards to celibacy, when the church considers marriage a Sacrament, and NOT a "desire of the world".

I read about it, but I am still processing it. Truth be told, this is a lot more detailed than the other articles I read. I go to the episcopal church, but I was raised catholic and I also go to catholic mass sometimes. My big problems with the catholic church are a bit deeper (the fact that many worship Mary more often than Jesus or God). But I also have a problem with those other issues.
