@Stuart Wesley - so you hate fans of the wiggles, hate music by folks you deem too unskilled to make a noise, and think aquisition of money defines musical success.. gee, doesn't music pre-date the invention of money? Isn't a child bashing two trumpets together being musical? And free music is not worth saving?

Interesting...

money is important when music is your job stupid!!! your lack of perspicacity is astounding and naive at best your kind of cultural corruption is whats exactly wrong with the non music business in australia with thrives on ignorance exploitation and some idiot kicking a football and unskilled musicians should not be gigging until they become ... See Moreskilled musicians... dont make me send john mclaughlin around to your house he would kick your ass!!!! as would i .. it insults the intelligence of a patron . bad bland white person music only works on a glandular level....... and as for the wiggles .. well they make fred rodgers look like Mick Jagger!!!! a child bashing two trumpets together being musical LOL!!!! thats the science fiction movie POCKET ROCKET GOES TO AREA 51 ISNT IT? if you celebrate mediocrity you get mediocrity well stupidity is more plentiful than hydrogen so why not talk about it... considering the literacy rate of the australian public there wont be much to talk about...you are the glass eye in the forhead of humanity now go join your fellow dwarf nebullar processionals and go make your living playing bob dylan covers..........being pernicious, inerudite and vituperative is no way to go through life son...become an Amish Highwayman and go hold up a 7,11 at needle point because your obviously struggling for cultural currency..... thats all that wasn,t a question....................

When`s this likely to take place? I was at the Bendigo rally yesterday. Was very dissapointed in the turn out, but sadly Bendigo is like that...Complacent! Just want to see that we have a music industry and venues where budding musicians can do their thing. I`m not a muso, or any way connected with the music industry. Just a very passionate music ... See Morelover who has supported Australian music for over 3 decades. I`m worried for the future and really pissed off at the decline in venues, punter support and opportunities for young musos to learn how to perform/develop in front of an audience.

This, folks, I don’t feel is a bad thing. I see a future where musicians utilize their digital content by giving it for free, as promotional means to get fans out to live shows.

interesting idea... I always figured Live Music was the bread and butter of musicians for the last 5,000 years (at least!) - so the modern digital media making "recorded" music worthless/ easily pirated, means Live music will naturally snap back to the important position it traditionally occupied.
As for Melbourne, just get rid of the friggen pokies! Venues will thus return.

BENDIGO’S live music scene may not be dead and buried - or even dying, for that matter - according to one local venue.

Pokies and games arcades unfortunately truly having an effect on the Bendigo scene - true the cost of bands and a preference for local bands also comes into play. But to be there on the weekend, seeing great venues and seeing the 'Pub' down scaling there stage and room to cater more for pool tables and arcade games is pretty sad......

So it seems some consultation with venue owners is in order ...what will help convince them to keep the venues geared for live music? The venues I go to live off live music due to audiences buying up big at the bar. It will come down to money at the bar vs. income from machines most likely....more consultations me thinks.
