Locust Grove will host their annual Holiday Candlelight Tour Friday, December 11 from 5:30 p.m.–9 p.m, and on Saturday, December 12, with new extended hours are 1 p.m.-9 p.m.

This celebration is reminiscent of the year 1809 as the Clark & Croghan families, portrayed by Locust Grove’s costumed interpreters, welcome their... guests. The illustrious George Rogers Clark has just come to live at Locust Grove. The house shines warmly under the glow of candlelight and the mantels and stairs are draped with holly and fruit according to the custom of the time.

In the Grand Parlour guests will enjoy live music and dancing and may even be invited to dance!

Out in the kitchen, the cook directs the preparations of meals over an open fire, while carpenters in the wood shop finish repairs to farm tools.

In the Visitors’ Center:

*A Book Sale will offer gift-quality new, antiquarian and gently used books all at very reasonable prices. As a special offer during the sale, art posters by Louisville graphic artist Julius Friedman are available for $50 and can be signed by the artist from 6 p.m.–8 p.m. on Friday, December 11th only, with 100% of the price benefiting Locust Grove.

* A Four-course Afternoon Tea served on antique porcelain in front of the Visitors’ Center fireplace on Saturday at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. & 4 p.m. Reservations for tea are limited and should be made in advance. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 & under and includes the house tour.

Admission $8 for adults, $4 for children 6-12, free to children under 6 and to Historic Locust Grove members.

Locust Grove, circa 1790 is the last home of Revolutionary War hero, General George Rogers Clark, founder of Louisville. Currently under going a re-restoration, the house has a new and brighter look more authentic to its appearance in 1809.

Locust Grove is located at 561 Blankenbaker Lane (between Brownsboro Road and River Road). For more information, call 502-897-9845 or visit their website at www.locustgrove.org.

My dad spent 3 years & 18 days in the sanitorium, suffering from TB - from the day of his 18th birthday - in 1924! He was very lucky to survive the medical ignorance of the day, regarding the TX of TB.....not many who went in, came out alive....most came down the hill in a cable car, to a hearse!
Now it's a park................
