Lorraine Crowder Hughes Today and everday I am thankful for the congregation, Trinity Evangelical Lutherean Church, Rocky Point, NY, known locally as the FISH church (because of the desgin of the building). The congregation led by two wonderful Pastors is warm, welcoming, offers the oppportunity to hear the word of God and to serve God's people in so many ways.

Luther writes:

Only those sinners belong in the kingdom of Christ who recognize their sin, feel it, and then catch hold of the Word of Christ spoken here: “I do not condemn you.” These people constitute the membership of Christ’s kingdom. He admits no saint; He blows them all away; He expels from the church all who lay ...claim to holiness. If sinners enter, they do not remain sinners. He spreads His cloak over their sins and says: “If you have sinned, I remit your sins and cover them.” To be sure, sin is there. But the Lord in this kingdom closes His eyes to it, covers it, forgives it, and does not impute it to the sinner... If you have tasted the Law and sin, and if you know the ache of sin, then look here, and see how sweet, in comparison, the grace of God is, the grace which is offered to us in the Gospel. Did the previous poster miss that, "He expels from the church all who lay claim to holiness?" Just wondering.

Whatever else we may lay claim to, unless we lay claim to Christ our hope is uncertain and our conscience on shaky ground.

Members of Trinity Ev. Lutheran, Vale, NC, made “Operation Thanks-Giving” cards prior to worship. They mailed 90 cards to Global Mission Support to be distributed as a “random act of thankfulness” to ELCA missionaries. ...

I am thankful to have great leaders in my church, who are willing to sacrifice any financial gain or proud ambitions to serve in a poor inner city church that does not appreciate them nearly enough. I thank God whenever I see the red cross on top of our church and pray for them.

Marge Krell I would probably have to say communion, although grace in the worship service covers so many areas. I think being at the communion rail gives you the realization just what Christ really did for you.

If congregations were being forced to call particular candidates against their will, then I might agree, but that isn't happening.

Wonders when the ELCA is going to realize that the whole idea of "bound conscious" isn't going to bring peace between those who disagree over the CWA decisions. True and lasting unity is seldom created by saying, "Well, you go ahead and think what you think and I'll go ahead and think what I think - and we'll still be friends." Some issues, like the ones we are presently facing in the ELCA, are simply too big for that kind of an approach.
