Hi Ryan:
From state conservation areas to national forests, Missouri is blessed with public lands, and most of them allow hunting. Use the Conservation Atlas ( http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatlas/AreaList.aspx?txtUserID=guest&txtAreaNm=s ) to see where you can hunt on MDC properties. Many conservation areas have special regulations ... Read Morethat limit hunting times, hunting methods or other activities. Check the Special Regulations for Department Areas ( http://mdc.mo.gov/9475 ) in the Wildlife Code ( http://mdc.mo.gov/regs/code/ ) before you hunt.

Yeah. Deer hunting has always been a tradition in my family. In the past few years my brother-in-law and I started a new tradition for a Christmas hunt for rabbits. Not much success in finding them. We never plan on going home empty handed, so we hunt squirrels as an alternative.

If we don't go by the wildlife codes then eventually the deer would become extinct.

A recent e-mailer wanted to know why this department doesn’t pay for deer damage to vehicles but will collect fines for the wildlife code violations pertaining to deer. They felt that we claim ownership of deer when it pays us but not when it would cost us. ...

tks drew!!! at least someone understands.
Most people don't realize how much crop deer can eat and especially when there are large groups of them. If you have 15 -20 deer, and there is a corn or bean field nearby, they eat an enormous amount.Of course they prefer that to grass. And it's money out of our pocket, big time!! Some we could use to pay bills and feed our families.

If deer are a problem for your crops, contact your local Conservation Dept. and ask to speak to your county's Private Land Consultant. They will most likely be able to help you set up a plan to deal with the deer issue.
