Performance work has been an important part of Ms. Dill’s
artistic creation. According to Curator Nandini Makrandi
Jestice, Divide Light, which premiered in 2008, “brings together
all the threads of the last many years – the language of Emily
Dickinson, costumes covered with her words, set design
i...ncorporating decades of Dill’s photographic work, and choral
music that recalls the artist’s visionary experience.”
It also demonstrates her interest in collaboration – in this case,
with composers Richard Marriott and Tom Morgan. This film
by Ed Robbins adds yet another layer to the project by brilliantly
capturing Ms. Dill’s attempt to expand the boundaries of the
operatic tradition. Divide Light is at once a culmination and a
new path for the artist.
