...thinks that the above directive to "go to the mml's site" is fine but tis better to just provide a link for us:) .......ok, it took me a minute or two to wade through the site but here is is http://www.mml.org/IMISPUBLIC/Core/Events/eventdetails.aspx?iKey=10B-05M
My Village needs to check this out. We're on a National Heritage Route and have a website, an engineering study we paid 20K for, but no one is looking into connecting the non motorized trail from Davison to Millington's:(

Michigan Municipal League Local government officials Friday, Jan. 29) urged Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, R-Rochester, to strengthen the reforms he has proposed to Public Act (PA) 312, the state law that governs police and fire contracts. In a meeting in Lansing with the Michigan Municipal League Board of Trustees, Bishop said the Senate ...is proposing 10 reforms that will “stop out-of-control spending,” including amendments to PA 312 that will speed up the arbitration process during contract negotiations. League officials applauded the Senate for beginning debate on PA 312 and some of the other reforms, they urged Bishop to include a provision that would require arbitrators negotiating contracts for police officers and firefighters to consider a community’s ability to pay. Currently, PA 312 does not require arbitrators to consider if a community can afford the police and fire contract proposals that are on the table for negotiation.

Awesome idea to undermine the police officers and firefighters. They're willing to risk their lifes and put themselves in dangerous situations everyday. However, you want to prevent them from bargaining in good faith for safer working conditions, fair wages and reasonable benefits. Arbitrators don't rule in favor of unions causing municipalities to go into receivership.

Amending 312 is not about taking away benefits from our public safety employees. Bargaining in good faith should not fully deplete the resources of a municipality.
