William Anita Marie Bergman, 40, of Shawnee, Kan., passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 12. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, September 19, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 5325 Nieman, Shawnee, Kan., at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the parish hall. Anita was starting her 10th year as a teacher a...t Highlands Elementary, where she taught 6th grade. Anita had completed her B.A. in education from Avila University and her master's in education at MidAmerican Nazarene University (July 2003). Teaching was Anita's passion in life as much as taking care of her family. Anita is survived by her husband Greg; son Alex; mother, Mary, and brother Steve. Dean Nelson I realize I've been gone from there for a LONG time (76 grad), but I did want to mention my new book, in which I pay homage in the acknowledgements page to my literature professor, Maxine Crain (now Maxine Walker). I also tell about being on MNU's baseball team during its very first year. Painful! The book is God Hides... in Plain Sight: How to See the Sacred in a Chaotic World, published by Brazos Press. I take the Seven Sacraments and apply them to everyday life -- jobs, relationships, conversations, transitions. Linda Fox Hughes Loved it at MNU. I remember all the pranks my husband and Mark Leuellen pulled while they were there. They never once got caught. The only one they did not do was putting the cow in upstairs Rice Hall. lol Those guys got caught because they stuck around to watch.
