"2009 Wild Turkey Management Cooperator Patch Entries," an exhibit supported by National Wild Turkey Federation, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Project Wild, is now on display at the MSU Museum's Community Gal...lery until Dec. 13.
The Wild Turkey Management Cooperator Patches are designed by Michigan students from grades K-12. Each year, students are able to submit their design entries to Project Wild. The winning design from this year will be next year's patch. The designs on display are the winning and runner-up entries for 2009.
The exhibit shows varied Wild Turkey Management Cooperator Patches from previous years, the display of wild turkey calls, fun facts about turkeys and the very impressive red, white and blue head of the gobbler. Maybe that's why Ben Franklin wanted to make the Wild Turkey our nation bird! This exhibit also highlights hunting, stewardship, involvement in natural resources ethics and cultural heritage by young people of Michigan, and recognition of the effect of human intervention in preserving nature for future generations.
The MSU Museum's Community Gallery provides an opportunity to explore, study, and express the natural and cultural diversity of the world. Projects displayed reflects museum themes and exhibits, and recent projects have featured students' drawings, paintings, collages, and even puppets. For more information on current exhibits and programs, please contact the MSU Museum at 517-355-2370 or visit http://museum.msu.edu.
