- It was in 1902 that the Marmite Food Company (later Marmite Ltd) was set up in Burton on Trent. Our mission, then as now, was to share the joy of Marmite-eating and make it available to all those with excellent taste.

I came across an interesting factoid about Marmite recently. Apparently, Edward de Bono, the father of lateral thinking, believes it could solve the Middle East crisis. His reasoning? Both Israelis and Palestinians have a diet largely based on unleavened bread, which... means that they don’t have a very high intake of zinc.
One of the main symptoms of zinc deficiency is increased levels of aggression – thus a society with low consumption of the mineral is likely to be more expansionist, quicker to anger and more violent in their approach to their neighbours. Marmite, being yeast-based and thus very high in zinc, could be shipped to Israel and the occupied territories to correct the peoples’ body chemistry. End of war!Read More
