Maryland Legal Aid Help! Our Mock Trial is Saturday, 11/7/09, 9:00 til 2:00 pm, Baltimore City Circuit Court. We need witnesses! Help new legal services lawyers use their trial skills, use your acting skills, escape the hustle of Saturday chores, get a free lunch in the company of colleagues. Maryland Legal Aid Gov. Martin O’Malley announced Pro Bono Week in Maryland in coordination with National Pro Bono Week, which promotes free services donated by lawyers nationwide. O’Malley was joined by Chief Judge Robert Bell, officials from the Maryland Bar Association, the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, and homeowners who have benefited from the free counseling services when he made the declaration.

Maryland Legal Aid Over 30 lawyers at a free legal clinic hosted by Maryland Legal Aid on Saturday helped 100 people by providing informational seminars and one-on-one meetings. “It’s an exciting day to see all these private lawyers come out here to give their services,” Legal Aid executive director Wilhelm Joseph told WJZ-TV news.

Maryland Legal Aid 12 yo had 3 school outfits after her mother left her. Jernita Hines asked staff to help. She got a closetfull. Client shared: never wanted to be separated from family, but is making best of it. Her focus: to excel in school. She misses her mother, doesn’t miss sleeping outside on bench, sharing room with strangers. The clothes made her the happiest she’s ever been, feels good to know that people care.

Maryland Legal Aid Social work support for clients in Baltimore has been a goal for over 10 years. Four UM grad students joined the Ad Law Unit of Legal Aid under the supervision of Liz Pickus, professor at the UM School of Social Work. The students will support with home visits, photography of housing conditions, application assistance of all sorts, landlord negotiation, medical appointment, case worker coverage, and much more.
