Nancy Kane My name is Nancy kane and in 1966 my husband was operated for a brain tumor. He was in the Navy in Vietnam at the time and had been suffering with bad headaches. At first in May of 66 the doctors put it down to ulcer, sinus and various other things, we had only been married since March of that year. He then had a eeg a...s they never had anthing else It was dicovered he had a tumor the size of a orange. They disovered it was a Melanoma and a secondary as they said Melanoma never start in the Brain. They gave him three months to live. He had six weeks of radiation as there was never chemo at the time. He is still alive today. I think a lot of his was positive thinking as he never accepted he was going to die. We went on to have three boys and we know have seven grandchildren, we were told we would never had children. The morale of this story is never give up and listen to your body.

Michelle Newton I found my first melanoma at 29 years of age and 5 months pregnant with my first child, I thank my lucky stars for 2 very important and compassionate Dr's in my life at the time. The late Dr Varachia. My obestrician Dr McGrath. I had this mole previously checked at a Skin Cancer Clinic and by a GP neither noted any co...ncern about this mole, my husband knew there was something wrong though and nagged me all the time to get it checked again, which I ignored him about.

ride4acure - Hannah Rose Melanoma Research Fund ride4acure aims to raise awareness and funds to support vital melanoma research in young people, to increase quality of life, develop treatments and ultimately find a cure.
I am Maura Luxford, 47 years old, mother of three, teacher, counsellor and horsewoman. I have lived... and worked in the Macleay Valley since 1992. On the 22nd December 2008 life as I knew it changed forever. My eldest daughter Hannah Rose died from the effects of malignant melanoma within a year of diagnosis. On 21st October 2009, I am getting on my bike and riding 1500kms to raise vital research money and awareness about malignant melanoma and its effect on adolescents and young adults. I am not a cycling athlete or sportswoman superstar. I’m a mum with ‘a fire in my belly’ who’s lost a precious daughter. I am motivated into action because this aggressive disease is destroying lives. I am endorsed by the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to do this and have set up the Hannah Rose Melanoma Research Fund within PeterMac.The best medical minds are working tirelessly to treat and find solutions to this disease. Melanoma in young people is an area of science ‘crying’ out for research dollars ride4acure aims to support that need.We can do something about this together…today’s research – tomorrows cure. Please support ride4acure by going to www.ride4acure.com.au also check out our facebook group by simply typing ride4acure into the facebook search space (above right) and it will take you straight there! Let's work together to spread the word..many thanks Maura
